TO KNOW
- the dates of the Written parts are fixed and cannot be changed
- if you are not available on Saturday morning, please cancel your registration and choose another IELTS date. Make sure you respect the deadlines specified in the calendar
- you must have a valid Identification Document in order to register for the IELTS test
- if you do not respect the rules for admission to the test and the deadlines specified in the calendar, you will be subject to the sanctions imposed by Polito (see the next paragraph "Do I have to pay?").
TO KNOW
- The registration fee to take the IELTS test (IELTS fee) is 164.90 euro for each session.
- You can take the IELTS test one time free of charge if:
- you are enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree programme (DM 270/04 or DM 509/99) at Politecnico di Torino and the English language exam is one of your curricular requirements
- you are enrolled in the Professional Bachelor’s degree programme Industrial Manufacturing Technologies (class L-P03)
- you are enrolled in a "Laurea Specialistica (DM 509/99)" at Politecnico di Torino and the English language exam is one of your curricular requirements
- you are enrolled in a Master’s degree programme (DM 270/04) with refugee status in Italy, or in another country (only if part of a university project).
- You cannot take the IELTS test free of charge if:
- you are enrolled in a Master’s degree programme (DM 270/04) at Politecnico di Torino (except for refugee students)
- you have already earned the English language exam credits because you presented an English language certificate to Politecnico di Torino (curricular requirement already fulfilled)
- you have already taken the IELTS test free of charge at Politecnico one time
- you have already been refunded the IELTS fee in your previous academic paths
- you are a PoliTo staff member
- Your IELTS registration can be considered successfully completed only after you pay the IELTS fee (if due).
- If you cancel your registration before the deadline available in the sessions calendar or if you justify your absence from the exam and:
- you registrered for the IELTS test free of charge, you will be able to register again for a new exam session free of charge;
- you paid for the IELTS test, the IELTS fee will be refunded into your student virtual account and you will be able to register for a new session and pay with that money.
- If you do not justify your absence and:
- you registrered for the IELTS test free of charge, you will be charged the IELTS fee.
- you paid for the IELTS test, the IELTS fee will not be refunded to you but you do not have to pay any penalty fee.
- If you passed the test in a session and you also registered for another IELTS session, the IELTS fee for the second registration will not be refunded to you, unless you cancel your registration before the deadline of the sessions calendar (point 5)
- You must pay the IELTS fee through your student virtual account when you register for the IELTS test before the deadline illustrated in the sessions calendar. If you are charged the IELTS fee for not having justified your absence, you must pay it within 30 days of the payment due date. If you do meet this deadline, a hold will be placed on your academic progress and you will not be able to perform any further operations (such as exams, withdrawal from studies, etc.).

- Check if you have to pay the IELTS fee or not
- Register for the IELTS test and pay before the deadline available in the sessions calandar
- During the registration process you will be redirected to your student virtual account to pay the IELTS fee. Pay the IELTS fee (with immediate payment or by MAV) and then go back to the IELTS registration procedure (Teaching Portal > Languages TAB > IELTS registration) to complete your registration
- Check your Polito mailbox to verify if you got a message confirming your registration for the test. If you do not receive this message, it means that you have not completed the IELTS registration correclty (in this case you are not registered for the session)
- Send a ticket to the CLA if you think that you should be able to take the IELTS test free of charge but the procedure asks you to pay for the fee.
TO KNOW
- The Written parts are always scheduled on Saturday morning, without breaks, in this order: Listening, Reading and Writing
- the exam begins at 9:00 for all candidates and takes about 2 hours and a half
- you will be called between half an hour and one and a half hours before the beginning of the exam. You will be asked to register and stop in the wardrobe room, where you must leave all your personal belongings
- there is a wall clock in the examination room. You will receive sheets of paper, pencils and erasers.

- show up to the Written parts on the time and place indicated on your personal page of the Teaching Portal (Portale della Didattica) – Languages/Lingue TAB
- you will be allowed to bring into the examination room exclusively the Identification Document that you used for registration and a bottle of water without label (if needed)
- you will be asked to leave your personal belongings in the wardrobe room. For this reason, we suggest that you do not bring any valuables on the day of the exam
IMPORTANT:
the dates of the Written parts cannot be modified. If you cannot be present on Saturday morning, please cancel your registration before the deadlines available on the IELTS sessions calendar and choose a different IELTS date.
TO KNOW
- The Oral part lasts 11-14 minutes
- it can be scheduled on a day before or after the Written parts and on Saturday afternoon (see the details in the IELTS sessions calendar)
- the Oral part dates are scheduled according to the total number of registrations and to the availability of the members of the Examination Board
- you CANNOT choose the exact date and time of your Speaking
- requests received after the closing date for registrations will not be processed
- requesting a change of date/time for the Oral part is not possible after the publication of the invitations
- you will be called for registration approximately half an hour before the exam start time.
IMPORTANT:
If you cannot be present at the Oral part or if you do not show up, you will NOT be able to make it up nor take the Written parts.
If you do not justify your absence as described in the Absence at the exam paragraph, your absence will be considered not justified and you will be subject to the sanctions imposed by Polito.

- be on time for the exam in the place indicated in the invitation published on your personal page of the Teaching Portal (Portale della Didattica) – Languages/Lingue TAB
- bring with you the Identification Document that you used for registration.
IF YOU NEED TO TAKE THE ORAL PART IN SPECIFIC DATES
In case of need:
- during the IELTS registration time frame you will be asked to indicate if you are NOT available for one or more time slots. You must be available in at least two time slots on Friday and Saturday afternoon and you cannot enter more than six unavailable time slots
- inform the CLA about any problem using the ticketing system BEFORE the deadline for registration.
ATTENTION: we will try to meet your needs and schedule your Oral part on the time slot that you have chosen as far as possible.
TO DO
- Check the dates, times and venues of your IELTS test on your personal page of the Teaching Portal - Languages TAB - on the date indicated in the IELTS sessions calendar
- check your Polito mailbox for messages regarding the IELTS test
- immediately inform the CLA and the Examination Board about any problem: contact the CLA through the ticketing system or send an email to the Examination Board IH Milano at: ih.ielts@ihmilano.it.
TO KNOW
- You will NOT receive an invitation email into your Polito mailbox
- for a correct visualization of your Languages TAB, we suggest you use a PC to log in to your personal page of the Teaching Portal
- emails will be sent exclusively for the following purposes:
- inform about changes in the invitations after their publication, (caused by unpredictable events)
- provide instructions for safe access to the examination venues
It is your responsibility to check the publication and display of the IELTS invitation on the Teaching Portal and to report any problems in good time.
TO DO
If you are absent from the test for health or other reasons, you must provide the official documentation that certifies the reason for your absence no later than 4 days after the IELTS session. Please send this documentation to ih.ielts@ihmilano.it. The Examination Board will evaluate your documentation.
TO KNOW
- if you cannot be present at the Oral part or if you do not show up, you will NOT be able to make it up nor take the Written parts
- if you do not justify your absence as described above, you will be considered not justified and you will be subject to the sanctions imposed by Polito.

Politecnico di Torino:
- takes into account the overall score only, no minimum score is required for each individual part
- considers the English Language exam passed/failed according to the minimum requirements*. Results are not converted into a grade out of 30
- automatically registers the results of the IELTS tests organized by Politecnico in your transcript
- does in no case cancel from your Teaching load any previous registration of the IELTS exam if you obtain a lower score in a subsequent IELTS test. The existing registration remains unchanged.
IMPORTANT:
- BEFORE registering for an IELTS session, check the minimum score required by Politecnico in order to pass the English Language exam*
- IELTS results are NEVER released before the date indicated on the IELTS sessions calendar
- if you have a deadline preceding the IELTS results publication date (see IELTS sessions calendar), consider registering for an earlier session.
*Check the minimum score required by your Degree programme in the Student Guide, section “Foreign language learning” - English language - first year of enrolment. If you have any doubts, please send a ticket to the Student Careers Unit .
ATTENTION:
Results may not be published on the scheduled date if the Examination Board encounters some problems. For this reason, we suggest you do not wait until the last IELTS session if you have other important deadlines (graduation sessions, submission of mobility documents, etc.).
