The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is the highest degree of education in the academic system and it provides the necessary competence and skills to carry out high-qualification research activities at universities, public institutions or private organizations. It is also useful to access careers in Public Administrations and to work as self-employed professionals.
Ph.D. students are “researchers in training” since their educational path is aimed at obtaining a degree but, at the same time, they are involved in the research activities conducted in the Departments. Therefore, because of these characteristics and in compliance with the guidelines shared at a European level, the Ph.D. course allows to acquire methodological accuracy in scientific research, creativity, autonomy and ability to address and solve complex problems, as well as useful academic and business skills.

The Ph.D. at Politecnico di Torino is the right formative path for you if you intend to perfect your training in fields of research ranging from architecture and civil engineering, to the ICT area, industrial engineering and basic sciences.
For the XXXVIII cycle, 18 Ph.D. courses are active. Two of them are national Ph.D. courses, one in agreement with the National Institute of Nuclear Physics, one in agreement with the National Institute of Metrological Research and three in agreement with the University of Torino.
