After enrolment, Ph.D. candidates start their doctoral path, under the supervision of a Supervisor. They carry out research and training activities both at Politecnico di Torino and in other Universities, research centers and institutions, in Italy and aboard.

Ph.D. candidates are required to attend their courses and work on the research activities included in their study plan.

In order to support the Ph.D. student in planning his/her research and to facilitate discussion about the three-year activity and its methods, the compilation of the Declaration of Intent (DoI) is required.

At the end of each year, Ph.D. students are required to submit a written report and in some cases make an oral presentation. The Academic Board will assess the progress of the Ph.D. students and decide on his/her admission to the next year or propose to the Rector his/her exclusion from the programme.

In order to monitor the level of satisfaction with the Ph.D. path, the Ph.D. students must complete an anonymous questionnaire. From the analysis of the data collected, an overall very positive picture of the Ph.D path emerged, with 85% of the Ph.D. students feeling satisfied overall. The relationship between Ph.D students and Supervisors is also positive for 89% of those interviewed.

For enrolment in year 1, 2 and 3, Ph.D. students are required to pay the corresponding tuition fees, in compliance with the procedures and deadlines illustrated in the Tuition Fee Regulations and Guide.
