For further information on the correct course of action in any type of emergency, please refer to the Emergency Plan Excerpt valid for all locations.

Please note that you can also immediately report an emergency and find basic behavioral guidelines on the mobile App.

Infirmary

Please note that an infirmary is active at the Central Campus, located at Corso Duca degli Abruzzi 24:

Accidents and near miss

Accidents

Employees and students of the Politecnico are covered by accident insurance, including so-called "in itinere" accidents. These are accidents that can occur during the normal commute to and from home to the workplace or study location.

In Case of an Accident:

  • Immediately notify the Human Resources Administration Office: PEPS.GestionePTAB@polito.it, who will provide the accident report form.
  • Fill-out the accident report form in detail, specifically regarding the circumstances of the accident, and return it along with the certificate issued by the hospital emergency room, stating the prognosis period (days of recovery).
  • The office will then forward the accident report to INAIL within two days.
  • At the end of the prognosis period, submit the certificate confirming the closure or continuation of the accident to the PT/A Administration Office. This certificate should be issued by your attending physician or an INAIL medical examiner, indicating any additional days of prognosis.

It is necessary to report even accidents with a prognosis of only one day.

Near Miss

A near miss, or "quasi infortunio" in Italian, is a work-related event that could have caused an injury but, for some reason, did not.

This category includes incidents that occurred without human involvement, as well as minor injuries that don't result in days away from work beyond the day the event happened.

You have to report any near misses to the Prevention and Protection Service. This is crucial because it's important to jointly investigate the causes that lead to such events (e.g., unsafe behaviors, non-compliance with work requirements and/or procedures, structural, organizational, and/or technical deficiencies). This investigation helps identify the corrective actions needed to prevent other potentially harmful events from occurring.

Emergency Management

piano evacuazione

An emergency is a dangerous situation, an unforeseen event or circumstance with the potential to cause harm to people and property, requiring exceptional and urgent measures to address it.

At PoliTO, technical, organizational, and managerial measures are adopted to handle emergency situations that might occur within the University's premises.

For each location, an Emergency Plan (EP) has been prepared with the aim of:

  • Addressing the emergency from its outset to contain its effects and quickly restore the situation to normal operating conditions.
  • Planning the necessary actions to protect the integrity and health of personnel and the public.
  • Protecting structures and assets, limiting any potential damage.

The EPs describe the activities carried out at each location, the building and plant facilities (active and passive protection measures), and define the procedures that all involved parties must implement in an emergency, with or without evacuation. This includes how to request intervention from external emergency services when necessary.

Specifically, the EP procedures assign particular tasks to the following roles:

  • Concierge and Unarmed Security Guard (VNA, only at Central Campus and Cittadella) personnel: Responsible for managing internal communications, coordinating with external entities using Politecnico premises, performing initial intervention at the emergency site, and facilitating the intervention of external emergency services, with varying procedures depending on the location.
  • Emergency Team Members (ASE): Politecnico employees identified by Managers and designated by the Rector, who is the Employer. They are trained as High-Risk Firefighters and Workplace First Aid Personnel for Group B companies. Their task is to intervene at the emergency site and support evacuation operations and building safety procedures.
  • Emergency Coordinator (COE): Responsible for directing intervention operations and, if necessary, giving the order to call external emergency services and/or evacuate.
  • Infirmary (only at Central Campus): Called to intervene in cases of medical emergency.
  • Building Services Technical Personnel: Called to intervene for building safety, and the management of detection, public address, extinguishing systems, etc.

Evacuation tests

The Fire Safety Management Service organizes evacuation tests to practice the reporting, initial intervention, and evacuation procedures defined in the Emergency Plans for various locations.

Tests are conducted at least annually for each location. In complex locations, consisting of multiple distinct buildings, tests are performed per single building or fire compartment.

These emergency simulations require the active participation of all personnel for whom the EP outlines a specific role in emergency management. Additionally, all workers, students, and any visitors present in the area where the test is conducted are required to participate, following the instructions of the personnel responsible for emergency management, as well as messages broadcast through the sound diffusion system.

Emergency Personnel

Emergency team members, trained as described above, are qualified to use semi-automatic defibrillators.

Lists of workers who are part of the emergency teams are updated and periodically formalized by Rector's Decree
