With the ratification of the Lisbon Convention, which took place through Law No. 148 of July 11, 2002, the concept of the purposeful recognition of foreign qualifications was introduced in Italy.
It is therefore essential to understand the purpose and objective for which recognition is required in our system before initiating any evaluation procedure, taking into account the different procedures existing in our legal system and the different entities responsible for these procedures.
If the foreign degree is enabling for the profession:
- For practice of regulated profession (i.e., Chemist, Medical Doctor, Psychologist, Engineer, etc.), the competent authority is the Ministry overseeing the profession (e.g., Health, Justice, Ministry of Education, etc.)
- In the field of Engineering, it is the Ministry of Justice Ministero della Giustizia - Direzione Generale Giustizia Civile - Ufficio III - Libere Professioni;
- In the field of Architecture, it is the Ministry of University and Research
- For access to the job market for non-regulated professions, the competence lies with the employer.
