APERITOC - Meet the TOC² student team
The TOC² team (To Common, To Care), a student-led team by Politecnico di Torino exploring the concept of the commons, mainly in rural and/or marginal contexts, through an empirical and transdisciplinary approach.
Through participatory design activities, the team aim to build an active student community capable of generating concrete transformations by enhancing local spaces and networks for open and collective use of the territory.
Alternatives to top-down decision-making mechanisms, which are often too far removed from the real needs of the inhabitants, are proposed, emphasising the value of local skills and labour, the empowerment of non-experts, frugality and thus the ecology of the design and construction process.
TOC² is inspired by the European project ASOC (Architecture School of Commons), in which some of the team’s members took part. This initiative promotes collaboration between universities, architectural collectives, and local associations in France, Italy, and Greece, to rethink pedagogical and design models in response to current ecological and social challenges.
The team invites you to an aperitivo on May 7 at 6:00 PM at the Castello del Valentino, in front of the Manica Chavalley. It will be a perfect opportunity to get to know each other better, find out about the planned activities (workshops and seminars), and see how to make a difference together!
