Join this Tech Talk with Wabtec: through this talk participants will be able to understand how some theoretical concepts of LEAN can find application in the industrial field, even for make-to-order businesses.

Eight years ago, in Piossasco site, they began the journey towards Lean. They started with Value Stream Mapping by mapping the production flow, identifying the Not Value-Added process phases, and selecting bursts to implement, such as the relayout, the implementation of kanban, improving product handling, and optimizing the testing phases.

The tools used, based on Lean concepts, were: VSM, 5S, SMED, KANBAN, KPI. The activities gave us multiple improvements. First of all, they managed to spread the Lean culture by applying its concepts through training and the implementation of initiatives that improved production flows, increased productivity, reduced time and material waste, with a keen eye on environmental impact by reducing packaging during the picking phases.

Today, the site of Piossasco is known as a mature industrial reality that leads the way for sister companies and other local and non-local industrial realities, as attested by their clients, such as Trenitalia, and car builders like Alstom, Siemens, and Hyundai.
