Below are the rules for enrolment in the Master's degree programme in Digital skills for sustainable societal transitions for applicants coming from Politecnico di Torino.
If you meet the curricular requirements, we will verify if your academic performance is suitable for admission in the following ways:
1. Verification of the weighted average of all grades
2. Admission test (Interview)
1. Verification of the weighted average of all grades
The following applicants are admitted to the programme without taking any admission test (provided that they submit thier application on the Apply@polito platform):
- the duration of the training course is less than or equal to 4 years (1) regardless of the average;
- the duration of the training course is greater than 4 years but less than or equal to 5 years (1) and the weighted average (2) of the exams is greater than or equal to 24/30;
- the duration of the training course is more than 5 years and the weighted average (2) of the exams is greater than or equal to 25/30.
PLEASE NOTE: following the decisions of the Academic Senate of 30th May 2020 and 23rd March 2021, the academic years 2019/20 and 2020/21 will not count towards the tota duration of the students' academic studies for the purposes of admission to the Master's degree programme for academic year 2021/2022 and following years.
The weighted average is calculated on all credits with a grade out of thirty and useful for the attainment of the first level degree with the exclusion of the worst 28 credits without any rounding.
The duration of each student's educational path is assessed on the basis of the number of academic years of enrollment starting from the first enrollment in the Italian university system: for students enrolled full-time, the duration coincides with the number of academic years of enrollment, while for part-time students, the duration is evaluated considering half a year of enrollment for each annual part-time enrollment. For students enrolled full-time, belonging to the "Dual Career" program, the duration is evaluated, as for part-time students, considering half a year of enrollment for each annual enrollment.
In case of career shortening, the calculation of the years must be increased in proportion to the number of validated credits (10-60 credits = 1 year, etc.). The worst 28 credits must be subtracted proportionally to the number of recognized credits.
(1) The last useful session to meet the average requirement is the December graduation session.
(2) The weighted average is obtained from the sum (marks x credits) / sum of credits.
2. Admission test (Interview)
In the event that the adequacy of the academic performance is not met by means of the weighted average test, as described above, a follow-up interview is scheduled.
Enrolment
Your offer of admission is only valid for the academic year in which you submitted your application. This means that if you are admitted to the programme but you eventually do not enrol, you will have to submit your application through the Apply@polito platform again for admission and pass the admission test in the following academic years.
The curricular requirements of the applicants will be verified by a specific Committee through the Apply@polito platform.
The curricular requirements for admission to this programme are:
- a degree obtained in the following classes (or other qualification obtained abroad deemed suitable pursuant to art.6 c.2 ex DM 270/04):
Degree class | D.M. 270/2004 | D.M. 509/1999 |
Ingegneria dell'informazione | L-8 | 09 |
Ingegneria industriale | L-9 | 10 |
Scienze e tecnologie informatiche | L-31 | 26 |
Scienze matematiche | L-35 | 32 |
or, alternatively, the competencies and knowledge you have gained during your Bachelor’s studies (in terms of credits related to specific Scientific Disciplinary Fields or to groups of Scientific Disciplinary Fields);
- a minimum number of credits earned in the activities below specified:
Master's degree programme | Type of activity | Scientific Disciplinary Field |
DIGITAL SKILLS FOR SUSTAINABLE SOCIETAL TRANSITIONS | 1st GROUP (minimum 25 CFU) | MAT/03, MAT/05, MAT/07, MAT/08, MAT/09, FIS/01, ING-INF/05, INF/01, ING-IND/35, IUS/09, SECS-P/02, SECS-P/07, SECS-P/08, SPS/04, SPS/08, SPS/09 |
2nd GROUP (minimum 45 CFU) | ICAR/06, ICAR/08, ICAR/18, ICAR/20, ICAR/21, ICAR/22, L-ART/06, M-GGR/01, M-GGR/02, SPS/07, SPS/08, SPS/10, SECS-P/06, ING-IND/11, ING-IND/10, ICAR/07, ING-IND/16, ING-IND/22 |
When the credits of a certain Scientific Disciplinary Field are present both for 1st GROUP and for 2nd GROUP, they are counted for 1st GROUP. Residual credits are counted for 2nd GROUP. Therefore, the credits of a course can be split in two parts and calculated separately to reach both the minimum credit threshold for 1st GROUP and for 2nd GROUP.
If you lack max 10 credits to be admitted to the programme, the Academic Advisor can decide to accept you in any case; if you lack more than 10 credits, your application must be evaluated by the Coordinator or by the Deputy Coordinator of the Collegio of the Master's degree programme.
If you come from a Bachelor's degree programme of another Bachelor's class, your application will be sent to the Teaching Committee for evaluation. If you do not meet the curricular requirements for admission to this programme, the Teaching Committee will suggest the courses that you need to take in order to make up for your unfulfilled academic requirements.
In this case, you will have to attend the courses suggested by the Teaching Committee and pass the exams before you can enrol in the Master's degree programme.
If you need to make up for 60 credits or less, you must enrol in Single courses for unfulfilled academic requirements and take the exams. This type of single course enrolment is allowed exclusively for the courses assigned by the Teaching Committee.
If you pass the admission test, you can be admitted to the programme in the academic year following the one for which the admission test was taken (in any case after passing the exams - single courses - suggested to make up for your unfulfilled academic requirements). Otherwise, it will be necessary to submit a new application for access to the following academic years.

You must hold an English language proficiency certificate of at least level B2, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). For the purposes of achieving level B2 English language*, the table of certifications substituting or exempting possession of IELTS 5.5 certification is considered.
Possession of level B2 certification (IELTS 5.5) is required for admission to all Master's degree programmes.
*For the purposes of admission to the Master's degree courses, the date of obtaining the certificate is not taken into account, only the level achieved.
Cases of exemption
- IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate https://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/) only in case the entire path is taught in English, except foreign languages;
- Educational qualifications awarded by the European schools included in the Procedures for entry, residency and enrolment of international students and the respective recognition of qualifications, for higher education courses in Italy - Attachment 2*, only if the first language (L1) is English;
- Non-Italian qualification recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research as equivalent to the Italian high school diploma (diploma di maturità), or university degree awarded by a school/university in which the medium of instruction is English and issued by USA, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, wherever the school/ university is located.
- Non-Italian qualification recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research as equivalent to the Italian high school diploma (diploma di maturità), or university degree awarded by a school/university in which the medium of instruction is English, only if based in one of the countries listed in Annex A
In order to submit your application, you must enter your English language proficiency certification details. If you do not have the certification, you can still apply, but you will need to enter the certification by the online registration deadline.
The University reserves itself the right to check a sample of at least 5% of students by requesting the presentation of the original documentation to verify the certificate authenticity with the Certifing Boards.
Those who do not meet the language requirement by the deadline for enrolment from the 1st semester can enrol in the single courses by entering the courses of the 1st courses of the 1st year of the Master's degree programme for which they were rated 'failed' due to the lack of the language requirement.
By enrolling in individual courses, it will also be possible to take advantage of the IELTS sessions organised by the Teaching & Language Centre Office, for which a reduced fee will be charged.
As soon as the English language certificate has been obtained, it will be possible to enrol in the Master's degree programme by 4 March 2024 with automatic validation of the courses attended/passed. Tuition for the 1st semester that was not included at the time of enrolment cannot be supplemented at a later date.
PLEASE NOTE: you can see your language certificates (obtained through the CLA and/or outside Politecnico) on your personal page of the Teaching Portal - Apply@polito portlet. This information is available under your personal data.
N.B. A passing grade in the English language exam organized by the University Language Centre in academic year 2019/20 during the Covid19 emergency (registered under your personal information as LANGUAGE DECLARATION FOR COVID-19) DOES NOT qualify you for admission to a Master's degree programme.
The Committees in charge of evaluating applicants's academic performance for admission to the Master's degree programmes offered by Collegio of "Pianificazione e progettazione" are appointed with decree of the Rector.
Applicants with disability and applicants with specific learning disability (DSA)

If the Evaluation Committee finds that an applicant has to make up for some unfilled academic requirements and he/she passes the admission test, the test result will be valid until the following academic year.
If an admitted applicant does not enrol or does not advance any Master's courses in the academic year for which he/she has applied, he/she wil have to apply again and retake the admission test to be eligible in the following academic years.
The results of the admission tests will be published on the Apply@polito personal page of each applicant in the "Evaluation" session.

The interview will focus on the following topics:
• action programs for achieving the sustainable development goals;
• strategies and initiatives for the digital transition in urban agendas;
• basic elements of information technology;
• elements of territorial information systems.
Room, date and time of the test are published in the deadlines section.
The results of the test will be announced within the deadline indicated in the deadlines section.

If you are a Bachelor’s student at Politecnico di Torino and you are going to graduate after the September 2023 graduation period (December 2023 or February 2024), it is possible to include in your annual personal study plan the courses of the 1st year of your Master's degree through the credit advancement procedure if you meet the following requirements:
- admission requirements for the chosen Master's degree course (curricular requirements, suitability of personal preparation);
- have a maximum debt of 23 credits (including the English language exam and final exam) to complete the Bachelor's degree programme, by the end of the autumn exam session (September), having maintained the average prescribed for access to the Master's degree courses or having passed the merit assessment/admission test/interview.
If you do not yet have the language certificate, you can still submit your career evaluation request and request advances even if the warning 'Language requirements not met' appears.
Important:
- it is only possible to anticipate teaching once during the three-year degree course. Once anticipated, the Master's degree courses will remain in the teaching load until the Bachelor's degree is obtained, but it will not be possible to add new courses to be advanced;
- advanced courses (attended but not passed and/or passed and registered) will be carried over to the career of the chosen Master's degree;
- it is not possible to bring forward courses from the second teaching period;
- if the English language is passed during the autumn session (September IELTS session), the relevant credits will not count towards the 23 CFU debt;
- any traineeships (included in the load in previous years) registered by 31 December will not count towards the 23 CFU debt.
- Those who have been included in the annual personal study plan, but at the end of the September examination session will owe more than 23 credits or will lose the average requirement, will have these courses removed from the annual personal study plan. For admission to the new academic year, if the average requirement is not met, it will be necessary to take the admission test again.
- Those who will lose the requirements for the adequacy of their personal preparation, if they have not passed the admission test, will not be admitted to the Master's degree course.
- Those who have entered the Master's degree courses in advance, but who have not obtained their Bachelor's degree by the February/March session, will keep the advanced courses in their teaching load and will be able to take their exams in the summer and autumn sessions.
Procedure
- Send the application for admission to the Master's degree via the Apply@polito platform by the deadline.
- Wait for the positive evaluation for admission to the selected Master's degree course
- Access the Career Plan/Didactic Load portlet on the personal page: the Master's degree courses to be advanced will appear in the list of exams that can be included in the annual personal study plan, marked in purple (in the personal study plan the courses will not be present) and must be included in the annual personal study plan by the deadline.
For information on how to fill in your PSP/APSP, please refer to the 'Create your PSP/APSP" of the A.A. 2023/24 Student Guide.
Once a positive assessment has been obtained, those who do not proceed with the advancement of the Master's degree course in the academic year for which they applied for admission must reapply via the Apply@polito platform for access in subsequent academic years.
ATTENTION: Having anticipated the Master's degree courses does NOT mean that you will automatically be enrolled on the course once you have obtained your Bachelor's degree: enrolment must be completed from the VALUATIONS section of the Apply@polished platform within the deadlines (see deadlines section).
