LEARNING CONTENTS PRESENTATION

The course provides an introduction and general overview about drilling activities, concentrated on well planning phase. The main concepts about drilling activities for subsurface resources unlocking will be provided, with few practical exercises.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

Aim of the course is to provide the students with knowledge about the basic concepts and fundamentals of a drilling well planning activities. At the end of the course the students will be able to understand the main principles and activities performed in drilling department.

PROGRAMME

The main subjects of this course are:

-       Introduction to well gradients and wellbore stability

-       Casing seats and basic design

-       Introduction to drilling muds and cements

-       Introduction to directional drilling

TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The course is composed mainly of theoretical lessons, with few simple practical exercises, with the aim to strengthen the comprehension of the theory presented in the lessons. The exercises will be performed individually with conventional software.
