SSD - ING-IND/30, 2 CFU (21 hours)
Teacher: prof. Francesca Verga
LEARNING CONTENTS PRESENTATION
The course introduces the fundamental concepts and studies involved in CO2 storage, including laboratory analyses, geochemistry, evaluation of storage capacity and specific aspects of reservoir modeling and monitoring, and it discusses the role of reservoir engineers in a CCS project development by presenting relevant case histories.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
The course aims to provide the student with a perspective on how to approach CO2 underground storage. The expected learning outcome is the knowledge of all the challenges related to CO2 storage and the awareness of the competencies integration required to address such complexity.
PROGRAMME
- The role of reservoir engineers in CCS projects;
- Evaluation of storage capacity for depleted reservoirs and aquifers;
- Laboratory analysis, special studies & geochemistry;
- Monitoring;
- Presentation and discussion of case studies;
TEACHING METHODOLOGY
The course is delivered through live lectures with the support of slides. After presenting the theoretical background, real case examples and a few practical exercises are proposed. Students are asked to discuss the provided examples critically with the Teacher. Lectures are delivered both by Polito and Eni personnel.
