The weighted average grade required for admission to a Master’s degree programme depends on how long it took you to get your Bachelor’s degree.
The duration of your Bachelor’s path is calculated on the basis of the number of academic years you have been enrolled at the university, starting from your first enrolment in the Italian university system:
- for full-time students: the duration of the learning path is equivalent to the number of academic years of enrolment.
- for part-time students: each year of enrolment is counted as half-year.
Required Bachelor’s weighted average grade:
- up to 4 years to graduation - no average grade required;
- between 4 and 5 years to graduation – minimum average grade required: 21/30
- more than 5 years to graduation – minimum average grade required: 24/30
* Academic years 2019/20 and 2021/22 do not count towards the number of years of enrolment for the calculation of the average grade for admission to a Master’s degree programme.
| The weighted average grade is calculated on all accrued course credits (graded on a scale of 30) counting towards the achievement of the Bachelor’s degree, after having subtracted the worst 28 credits. The weighted average is calculated as follows: ∑(grade*credits) / ∑credits |
You must have the required average grade by the end of the December Graduation Period.
In the event of credit transfer, the duration of your academic path must be increased proportionally to the number of credits that have been recognized to you (10-60 CFU =1 year, etc.). The worst 28 credits must be subtracted proportionally to the number of validated credits.
Please note that Politecnico does not admit applicants whose average grades are below the required thresholds (even slightly below) as numbers will not be rounded.
There are no admission tests for applicants who do not have the required average grade, with the exception of the following Master's degree programmes:
- Communications Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- ICT for Smart Societies
- Materials Engineering
- Nanotechnologies for ICTs
- Civil Engineering
Below you can find a summary of the rules and admission procedures for applicants with an insufficient average grade for the above-mentioned Master’s degree programmes. TABLE
Rules for applicants who enrolled at Politecnico di Torino before a.y. 2007/2008
- graduated by 21/12/2011 - No average grade required
- graduated by 31/12/2012 – minimum average grade required: 21/30
- graduated after 31/12/2012 – minimum average grade required: 24/30
The details of the required credits/Scientific Disciplinary Fields are published in the following TABLE and in the Academic Regulations of each Master’s degree programme.
For admission to a Master's degree programme:
- you must have a Bachelor’s degree in a specific “degree class” (classe di laurea)
or, else,
- you must have earned a minimum number of credits in specific Scientific Disciplinary Fields (SSD) divided in:
- first group: minimum 40 credits in specific Scientific Disciplinary Fields (SSD) (45 credits for the Master’s degree programme in Mathematical Engineering)
- second group: minimum 60 credits in specific Scientific Disciplinary Fields (SSD) (20 credits for the Master’s degree programme in Agritech Engineering)
Each course can be linked to one or more Scientific Disciplinary Fields (SSD). The credits of the SSD found both in the first group and in the second group are primarily counted for the first group. The remaining ones are counted for the second group. The credits of the same subject can be counted partly to reach the minimum number of credits of the first group and partly to reach the minimum number of credits of the second group.
If you lack less than 10 credits the supervisor in charge of the evaluation will consider if there are similarities among the Scientific Disciplinary Fields and provide guidance. If you lack more than 10 credits, the evaluation of the similarities will be subject to the final approval of the Coordinator or the Vice coordinator of the degree programme.
The time required for the evaluation of your application depends on the supervisor who conducts the evaluation. If you have chosen a Master's degree programme that is different from your Bachelor's degree programme, the result of the evaluation will be available in about 10-20 days.
If you do not meet the curricular requirements, you will have to make up for your unfulfilled curricular requirements (missing credits) before you enrol in the Master’s degree programme you have chosen. You can choose between:
- enrolment in single courses in order to make up for your unfulfilled curricular requirements (check the specific section)
- credit transfer at Bachelor’s level if your unfulfilled curricular requirements are worth more than 60 credits.
The Professional Bachelor’s degree programme in INDUSTRIAL MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES is characterized by a lower number of credits in Engineering core subjects compared to the curricula of other Engineering Bachelor’s degree programmes. Please note that a professional degree (LP-01, LP-02, LP-03) does not qualify you for direct admission to a Master's degree programme.
| PLEASE NOTE: in compliance with the Regulations of the degree programmes of Politecnico, the evaluation of the curricular requirements for admission to a Master's degree programme is based exclusively on the Bachelor’s degree submitted by the applicant during the application process. The Scientific Disciplinary Fields associated with the credits earned by an applicant during additional learning paths (e.g. a second Bachelor’s degree, single courses, etc.) do not count towards the credit threshold for first group or second group subjects. In this case, it is up to the supervisor to evaluate the credits earned by the applicant during other learning paths. Single courses taken at Politecnico di Torino to make up for unfulfilled curricular requirements are an exception: the Scientific Disciplinary Fields of single courses taken at PoliTo will be automatically counted towards the attainment of the minimum number of credits required in the two groups. |
You are required to have an English language certificate (B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment - CEFR).
Politecnico di Torino accepts the certificates listed in the following table of certificates (accepted in substitution for IELTS 5.5) in order to assess your knowledge of English (B2 level): https://didattica.polito.it/cla/en/certificates . The reference table is the "Table dated 23/09/2019 and updated on 22/12/2022".
Admission decisions are not based on the date of your language certificate but only on your language level.
Cases of exemption:
- IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate https://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/) only if the entire path is taught in English, except foreign languages;
- Educational qualifications awarded by the European schools included in the Procedures for entry, residency and enrolment of international students and the respective recognition of qualifications, for higher education courses in Italy - Attachment 2*, only if the first language (L1) is English;
- Non-Italian qualification recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education and Merit and by the Italian Ministry of University and Research as equivalent to the Italian high school diploma (diploma di maturità), or university degree awarded by a school/university in which the medium of instruction is English and issued by USA, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, wherever the school/ university is located.
- Non-Italian qualification recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education and Merit and by the Italian Ministry of University and Research as equivalent to the Italian high school diploma (diploma di maturità), or higher university degree awarded by a school/university in which the medium of instruction is English, only if based in one of the countries listed below:
- AFRICA: Botswana, Cameroon, Gambia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Togo, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia.
- ASIA: Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka.
- CARIBBEAN AND AMERICAS: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United States.
- EUROPE: Cyprus, Malta, United Kingdom, Ireland.
- PACIFIC: Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.
PLEASE NOTE: you can see your language certificates (obtained through the CLA and/or outside Politecnico) on your personal page of the Teaching Portal - Apply@polito portlet.
A passing grade in the English language exam organized by the University Language Centre in academic year 2019/20 during the Covid19 emergency (registered under your personal information as LANGUAGE DECLARATION FOR COVID-19) DOES NOT qualify you for admission to the Master's degree programme.
What to do if you do not have an English language certificate
- you can try to get the English language certificate by the deadline for enrolment in first semester, 30/11/2025 (recommended option): if you think that you will be able to get your certificate before the deadline, you can start attending classes while waiting to enrol in the programme. In this case you do not need to enrol in single courses.
- if you cannot get the English language certificate by the deadline for enrolment in first semester, 30/11/2025: if you think that you will not be able to get your certificate before the deadline, but you meet the other admission requirements, you should enrol in single courses (check the specific section) by 30/11/2025.
If you are enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree programme at Politecnico and you are going to graduate after October 2025 (December 2025 or March 2026), you are allowed to advance some of your future Master’s courses (so you can take them while you are still a Bachelor’s student).
You can advance only the first-semester courses of your Master’s first year, and only if you meet the following requirements:
- you meet all the admission requirements of the Master's degree programme you have chosen (curricular requirements, suitable academic performance)
- at the end of the Autumn examination session (September)*, you have a maximum of 23 unearned credits (including the English language exam and the Final Project - even if they were already included in your Annual Personal Study Plan of previous academic years).
You can apply for admission to a Master’s degree programme and request to advance some of your Master’s courses even if you do not have a language certificate yet (and your Apply page displays the following message «Language requirements unfulfilled»).
Please check the Language Requirements for admissions to the Master's degree programmes in 2025/26.
*You are allowed to add your Master's courses to your APSP even if you do not meet the 23-credit requirement at the time you create your APSP because Politecnico will verify if you meet this requirement after all the exam grades are registered in your transcript.
You will be able to enrol in the programme and create your Master's PSP/APSP after you earn your Bachelor’s degree.
Please note:
- Master’s courses can be advanced one time only during the entire duration of your Bachelor’s path. After including them in your APSP, they will remain in your APSP till Bachelor's graduation, but you will not be able to add new Master's courses to your Bachelor's APSP. IMPORTANT: even if you have advanced some Master’s courses and you have included them in your past APSP, you will need to apply for admission to the Master’s degree programme in the academic year in which you want to enrol;
- If you have advanced some Master’s courses but you do not meet the requirements for this operation (academic performance), you will not be able to enrol in the Master’s degree programme. In any case, your Master’s courses will remain in your Bachelor’s APSP.
- Courses that have been advanced (attended but not passed and/or passed and registered) will be automatically transferred to your Master’s APSP.
- You are not allowed to advance any Master's course offered in second semester.
- If you pass the English language exam in the September IELTS session, the English credits will not count towards the limit of unearned credits allowed for advancing Master’s courses (max. 23 unearned credits).
- Internships (already included in your APSP in previous academic years) recorded in your transcript before 31 December will not count towards the limit of unearned credits required for advancing Master’s courses (max. 23 unearned credits).
How to advance your Master’s courses
- Submit your application for admission to the Master's degree programme you have chosen through the Apply@polito platform. You can apply for a maximum of two Master's degree programmes.
- If you apply for a Master’s degree programme taught both in English and in Italian, it won’t be counted as 2 programmes, but as a single choice (eg. Ingegneria Meccanica + Mechanical Engineering = 1 choice)
- Wait for the outcome of the admission process. If you have been admitted to the Master’s degree programme/s you have selected, you can advance some exams belonging to your future Master’s degree programme. You are allowed to advance all courses belonging to both Master’s degree programmes (and all the specialist pathways available within the Master's degree programmes) you have applied for. This means that if you have applied for two programmes, you can add the courses of both programmes to your APSP. Advancing your Master’s courses IS NOT equivalent to enrolling in a Master’s degree programme. Enrolment will be possible only after you earn your Bachelor’s degree.
- Log in to your personal page of the Teaching portal - Online Services TAB - Create your PSP/APSP portlet: here you will visualize the Master’s courses that can be included in your Bachelor’s APSP (they will not be displayed in your PSP). They will be marked in violet. You will have to drag and drop them into your APSP.

Enrolling in a Master's degree programme after advancing some Master's courses
We remind you that advancing some of your future Master's courses does NOT mean that you are automatically enrolled in the programme. After getting your Bachelor's degree, you will have to complete the enrolment process from the EVALUATIONS section of the Apply@polito platform by 27 March 2026. Enrolment will be possible after your graduation grade is recorded in your transcript (Student status: GRADUATED).
After completing the enrolment process, you will have 10 days to create your Master's PSP/APSP. Please remember that:
- you are not allowed to include any first-semester course that had not been originally advanced, unless they are courses offered through video lectures, marked with a green video camera on the course catalogue page;
- you are allowed to include also second-semester courses of your Master's second year.
