Below are the rules for enrolling in Master's Degree programme in Architecture construction city, Architecture for  heritage, Architecture for sustainability for applicants from others Universities.

To apply for our Master's degree programmes you need to fill out the application form, available on the Apply@polito platform.

You can  apply for a maximum of two Master's degrees programmes and you need to rank them in order of preference:  if you are considered eligible for both programmes,  you will only be allowed to enrol in the Master's degree programme which you indicated as your first choice

You can apply for admission if you have already graduated or if you are still a student and you have earned at least 140 credits by July 2023 (this is considered the minimum number of credits for the assessment of your previous academic records).

The deadlines for the submission of applications are illustrated in the deadlines section.

Failure to comply with these procedure and deadlines will result in your automatic exclusion from admission to our Master's degree programmes.

Admissions to the Master's degree programme is allowed only in the first semester.

If your Bachelor’s degree was awarded by a university other than Politecnico di Torino, you are required to have a weighted average grade of all the exams(1) equal to or greater than 24/30, regardless of how long it took you to earn your Bachelor’s degree;

You must include a portfolio in your application and you must upload it to the Apply@polito platform. The Admissions Committee will evaluate your portfolio.

The result of this evaluation will be published on your personal page of the Apply@polito platform.

(1) the weighted average grade is calculated on all accrued course credits (graded on a scale of 30) counting towards the achievement of the Bachelor’s degree, after having subtracted the worst 28 credits. Please note that numbers are not rounded.

Enrolment
The suitable candidate who does not proceed with enrollment in the Master's degree  programme in the academic year in which he applied for admission will have to reapply through the Apply procedure for access in subsequent academic years.

The curricular requirements for admission are:

  • Bachelor’s degree of class L-17 (or class 4 ex D.M. 509/99), or
  • three-year Bachelor's degree or university diploma, or
  • other suitable academic qualification obtained outside Italy and considered suitable for admission within the meaning of art. 6 c.2 ex D.M. 270/04

Another mandatory curricular requirement is that you must have completed the compulsory courses and activities listed in the table of class L-17 of the Bachelor’s degree programmes in Architecture.

Enrollment will be allowed to those who have obtained eligibility and who be awarded the Bachelor's degree by 30 September 2023.

Politecnico will assess if you meet the curricular requirements for admission through the Apply@polito portal.

Applicants coming from classes different from L-17, in the event that the integration is less than or equal to 60 ECTS, will have to fulfill curricular integrations before the submission of the portfolio to a merit-based evaluation,  enrolling to Single courses for unfulfilled academic requirements.

Certificazione IELTS

It is necessary to possess a B2-level English language proficiency certification, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

For the purposes of obtaining an English language certificate (B2 level)*, reference is made to the table of certificate or exemptions accepted in substitution for the IELTS 5.5.

* For the purposes of admission to Master's Degree courses, Politecnico does not consider the date of conferral of the certificate is not taken, but only the language level.

Having a B2 English language certificates (IELTS 5.5) is a mandatory requirement for admission to all Master's degree programmes.

Cases of exemption

  • IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate https://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/) exclusively if the entire course is in English, with the exception of foreign languages;
  • High school diploma from one of the European Schools listed in Annex 2 of the "Procedures for the entry, stay and enrollment of students applying for visas to higher education courses in Italy," exclusively if language 1 (L1) is English;
  • Qualification recognized by the Ministry of University and Research as equivalent to a high school diploma or university degree from a college or university that delivers the course entirely in the language and issued by the United States of America, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, wherever the institution attended is located.
  • Qualification, recognized by the Ministry of University and Research as equivalent to the baccalaureate or higher university degree, awarded entirely in English at a high school or college based in the countries listed in Annex A.

When you submit your  application, you must enter the data of your English language certificate. If you do not have it, you can still apply for admission but you will have to present an English language certificate before the deadline for online enrolment.

Verification of IELTS certificates
To verify your IELTS certificates please enter the TRF Number present on the certificate, or reported in the communication email of the publication of the results.

Verification of Cambridge certificates

To verify Cambridge certifications, candidates must select the option to share the test result with the Politecnico di Torino on the Cambridge personal page (instructions at the following link: https://support.cambridgeenglish.org/hc/en-gb/articles/360021664771-Sending-your-results-to-a-recognising-organisation-)  and indicate the Candidate's ID number, or, if this is not possible, they must upload the certification or the Statement of Results in the "Attachments" section of Apply.

Verification of TOEFL:

For TOEFL certification verification, it is necessary for them to indicate the Polytechnic University of Turin via the unique code (C285) during the exam registration phase. In addition, it will be necessary to indicate the Appointment Number. On the Apply@polito platform it is necessary to indicate the Appointment Number. Those who do not indicate through the unique code the Politecnico di Torino will have to attach the scan of the certification to allow for verification. 

For all other certifications/exemption cases in the table on the Teaching & Language Center website, it is mandatory to attach the scan of the certificate obtained.


The University also reserves the right to conduct a check on a sample of at least 5 percent of the certificates by requesting the submission of original documentation and also verifying the veracity of such documentation with the Providers.
Given the long waiting time for receipt of the original certification, we recommend obtaining the certification in a timely manner to meet the deadlines. 

Please note that English language exams and proficiencies passed at other universities are NOT considered a substitute for the required language certification.

Those who will not be in possession of the language requirement by the deadline for matriculation from the 1st teaching period will be able to enroll in single courses by entering the courses of the 1st semester of the 1st year of the master's degree program for which they have been rated "rejected" due to the lack of the language requirement. 

By enrolling in single courses, it will also be possible to take advantage of the IELTS sessions organized by the Teaching & Language Center, which involve payment of a reduced amount compared to that provided by other external bodies.

As soon as the English language proficiency certification is obtained, it will be possible to matriculate for the Master's Degree by March 4, 2024, with ex officio validation of the courses attended/passed. The teachings of the 1st p.d. that were not included at the time of enrollment cannot be supplemented later.

    Evaluation of personal academic performance

    Politecnico di Torino sets up an Admissions Committee appointed by Rector 's decree in charge of assessing if applicants’ academic performance is suitable for admission to the Master’s degree programmes offered by the Collegio di Architettura.  

    The Committee verifies if applicants meet the specific admission requirements (weighted average grade and portfolio) and have the skills and inclination for the learning objectives of the Master’s degree programme they are applying for.

    For this reason, within the deadline of submission of the application, you must include a portfolio (max. 20 MB) in your application and you must upload it to the Apply@polito platform.

    The Admissions Committee evaluates your Portfolio.

    The submission of the application is subjected to the uploading to the portfolio.

    The result of this evaluation (positive or negative) is published on your personal page of the Apply@polito platform.

    Evaluation criteria

    Your application is assessed based on two criteria (for a maximum of 60 points):

    • your weighted average grades of the exams you passed at the time of application (max 20 points)
    • your portfolio content (max 40 points) – see attached instructions

    The Admissions Committee evaluates your portfolio based on the following criteria:

    • consistency of your portfolio with the content of the degree programme you are applying for (see evaluation specific criteria);
    • novelty of content;
    • overall quality;
    • argument and graphic skills;
    • use of specific language consistent with the degree programme you are applying for.

    The guidelines to write the portfolio (compulsory for all applicants coming from other Universities and for applicants of Politecnico di Torino who do not meet the requirements for the direct enrolment) are availabl here.

    The evaluations is positive if your score is ≥ 36 points..

    The result of the evaluation of the portfolio will be published by 6th September 2023 in the section "Evaluations” of the Apply@polito portlet.

    If you are admitted to the programme (positive evaluation) and you meet the other admission requirements, you must enrol before the deadline.

     

    Specific evaluation criteria

    Architecture construction city

    Regarding the Master’s Degree Program in Architecture construction city, the Admissions Commmittee will evaluate the following aspects::

    • ability to control the fundamental elements of the distributive organization, of the structural and technological conception of an architectonical project;
    • ability to use the basic technical means and the ways of representation of the architectural design;
    • control of the basic means needed to read the morphological and technical aspects of architectural works in their different scalings;
    • mastery of the specific languages of the architectonical project and the historical-critical sciences related to Architecture;
    • knowledge of the principles of Technical Physic;
    • prior knowledge of the principles of Urban planning;
    • ability to read and describe the multidimensionality of the urban phenomena related to an architectonical project.

    It is also possible to write the portfolio in English.

     

    Architecture for heritage

    For the Master’s degree programme in Architecture for heritage, the Admissions Commmittee will evaluate the following aspects::

    • ability to design in architectural and urban scaling related to a configured context;
    • basic skills in heritage preservation;
    • appropriate knowledge of History of Architecture;
    • knowledge of the tools and forms of representation of architecture;
    • knowledge of Architecture’s core technologies;
    • knowledge of the principles of Technical Physic;
    • knowledge of real estate subjects theories and tools for Architecture and Urban planning.

    It is also possible to write the portfolio in English.

     

    Architecture for sustainability

    For the Master’s degree programme in Architecture for sustainability, the Admissions Commmittee will evaluate the following aspects:

    • ability to critically interpret an architectural and urban project;
    • ability to describe the phenomena related to architectural planning;
    • grasp of specific language of architecture;
    • skills in graphic representation;
    • prior knowledge of architecture’s breakthrough technologies;
    • knowledge of the principles of Technical Physic;
    • prior knowledge of the principles of sustainability used in architecture.

    It is also possible to write the portfolio in English.
