Sei unico fino al midollo – Politecnico with ADMO for donation

The ADMO campaign "You're Unique to the Bone" returns to campus with three events aimed at raising awareness about bone marrow donation.

The project, promoted by Politecnico di Torino and University of Turin, together with ADMO Piemonte, the Regional Transplant Center of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta, and with the participation of Città della Salute e della Scienza di Torino, has helped to increase the number of potential donors in the Italian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (IBMDR).

Since its launch in 2013, the project has brought the number of registered potential donors to 5,720 (as of 2024), achieving the remarkable result of 46 actual hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) donations.
Among those registered, 3,084 come from the Politecnico di Torino, and 30 of them have saved a life through their donation—an excellent outcome considering the genetic compatibility rate between donor and recipient is 1 in 100,000, and compared to other universities and faculties in Piedmont.
According to IBMDR’s 2023 annual report, the average age of actual donors is 30, as younger donors’ HSCs tend to engraft more successfully. For this reason, young people are the best donors.

In the weeks leading up to the "You're Unique to the Bone" days, ADMO medical staff will set up information booths around the university. During these events, students can learn more about the project and sign up as potential donors.

Registration and donation are two separate steps: registration involves a medical interview and a simple saliva test and is non-binding, as individuals have the right to withdraw their decision at any time.
Information booth schedule:
  • May 5 and 21: Corso Duca degli Abruzzi
  • May 6 and 20: Via Piercarlo Boggio
  • May 8: Mirafiori
