Conversation #5: Agriculture, Water, and Food in the Climate Crisis

Drought is certainly not a new problem. Over the past forty years, it has affected more people worldwide than any other adverse natural event. Agriculture is the first and most affected sector by water scarcity, with consequences on food production and, therefore, on the lives of significant portions of the global population, with 40% relying on it for their income.

The climate crisis is exacerbating drought phenomena in many parts of the world, even those previously unaffected, increasing their frequency, severity, and duration. Southern Europe and Italy are also affected by these dynamics, with very concrete repercussions on the Piedmont region and its agriculture, and consequently on our lives.

How can we narrate the changes that the territory and its crops undergo? How can we tell the near futures that potentially await us? And thus, how can we cope with a possible agricultural crisis within the climate crisis?
