URCA! URban Climate Action. Projecting urban solutions for the changing climate

Starting on Thursday, June 22, 2023, the PCTO URCA! project, the Transversal Skills and Orientation (PCTO) course by the Collegio di Pianificazione e Progettazione of the Politecnico will begin in Turin.

Climate change is a global phenomenon whose effects (e.g., heat waves and floods) are most evident in large cities. Turin is now actively engaged in planning flexible and dynamic solutions that are able to counter urban fragilities and make city places adaptive to the effects of climate change.

The PCTO URCA! project proposes to students an urban planning activity through the co-design of an urban space for climate change adaptation.
The site of the experimentation is the Valdocco neighborhood, an area of the city now affected by environmental redevelopment interventions aimed at transforming part of the neighborhood through nature-based solutions.
With this in mind, the PCTO URCA! activities include two lectures on cities and climate change, an urban walk, a group activity in which participants will try to design climate-proof urban solutions in the Valdocco neighborhood, and a final meeting in which the groups will present their design solutions.

The activity is carried out in collaboration with Torino URBANLAB.
