Movements of Water and Earth. Uses and Care of the Environment Between Past and Future
Management and Care of Territories have always been practiced by human populations, with varying degrees of awareness and planning, to create and maintain stable living conditions in an environment and to adapt it for diverse uses. These practices have also involved the relationship between water and land, from river embankments to urbanization processes of seas and lagoons, with Venice serving as a paradigmatic case.
Today, this continuous endeavor persists—consider projects aimed at slowing coastal erosion. But how can we do this while respecting the dynamics and lives inhabiting these territories beyond just human ones? How can we approach this by striving to restore “natural” processes? Can we learn from the past? For what kind of future?
Speakers:
Carlo Vincenzo Camporeale (Professor of Hydraulics, Politecnico di Torino)
Daniel Pietro Omodeo (Philosopher and Historian of Science, Director of the UNESCO Chair "Water Heritage and Sustainable Development," Ca’ Foscari University of Venice)
Laura Pugno (Artist, Turin)
Moderator: Marta Tuninetti (Politecnico di Torino)
