For several years, the University has been committed to the evaluation and improvement of research output. In 2019, the governing bodies approved the new evaluation system for scientific production.
The application of the University's Bibliometry Criteria is an essential element of various reward models and distribution of internal resources.
The external process of Research Quality Assessment (VQR), under the responsibility of the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes, is aimed at assessing the results of scientific research carried out, during the period under assessment, by state and non-state Universities, public research bodies supervised by the MUR and other public and private entities carrying out research activities.
The VQR results are used for the distribution of the reward quotas of the Ordinary Financing Fund (FFO), allocated by the Ministry of University and Research to Italian Universities, and for the allocation of the Departments of Excellence funding. There were 5 Departments of Excellence at Politecnico di Torino in the 2018-2022 edition and 3 in the 2023-2027 edition.
Operational documentation, related to the Research Quality Assessment (VQR) campaigns, and supporting applications developed by the University are made available to faculty and research staff.
