PoliTO Cinema | Don’t Look Up

The Politecnico di Torino launches the new season of PoliTO Cinema, a film series that will open the doors of the Aula Magna to the entire community and the general public on the first Thursday of every month—an opportunity to immerse oneself in screenings dedicated to scientific and social themes.

The third event is scheduled for Thursday, December 4 at 8,30 PM in the Aula Magna, Corso Duca degli Abruzzi 24, where Don’t Look Up” (Adam McKay, 2021) will be screened.
The film will be shown in its original language with Italian subtitles.

Synopsis
Set in an America overwhelmed by sensationalist politics and media noise, Don’t Look Up tells the story of an impending threat that everyone prefers to ignore. When young astronomer Kate Dibiasky and Professor Randall Mindy discover a comet on a collision course with Earth, they attempt to warn a distracted, divided country unable to grasp the seriousness of the situation.
In an environment dominated by vested interests and superficial communication, science struggles to be heard and becomes a call for collective responsibility. Through talk shows, opportunistic institutional decisions, and a population more inclined to distraction than awareness, Don’t Look Up portrays with irony and bitterness how difficult it is to face a global crisis without the ability to interpret and understand scientific evidence.

The screening will be preceded by a discussion moderated by Vice Rector for Sustainable Campus and Living Lab Patrizia Lombardi, with:
  • Jost-Diedrich Graf von Hardenberg – Professor, Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI)
  • Lia Furxhi – Director of the CinemAmbiente Festival
All PoliTO Cinema events are free of charge until all available seats are filled.
This screening is organized by the Green Team as part of its activities dedicated to environmental awareness and sustainability.
