Thesis Award "Gabriele Del Carlo"

On April 1, 2023, Gabriele Del Carlo, at the age of 39, lost his life in a mountain accident. This thesis award is dedicated to him and his commitment to Turin and the promotion of cycling.

Gabriele Del Carlo was a persistent and skilled activist, one of the co-founders of the FIAB Torino Bike Pride association, and a staff member of the Turin City Council's Department of Transport from 2016 to 2021. Throughout his short life, he never stopped studying. In recent years, he re-enrolled at the Polytechnic University of Turin to pursue a Master's Degree in Territorial, Urban, and Environmental Planning, which the university awarded him posthumously.

In agreement with his family, following Gabriele Del Carlo's death, FIAB Torino Bike Pride launched a fundraising campaign to continue his commitment to cycling. The initiative aims to combine field experience, a scientific and systematic approach, and a passion for envisioning a city where people can move safely, meet, and enjoy public spaces.

The Gabriele Del Carlo Thesis Award, promoted by FIAB Torino Bike Pride with the patronage of the RUS - Network of Universities for Sustainable Development, aims to recognize graduates of the University and Polytechnic University of Turin who have obtained their Master's degree between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2025, and who have defended a thesis on a topic related to cycling mobility, in its various forms and from the perspective of any discipline.

The awards consist of €1,000 gross for the top two candidates (or groups of thesis authors, in case of a thesis defended by multiple students). Detailed information about the competition and participation requirements can be found at https://bikepride.net/premio-di-laurea-gabriele-del-carlo_2024/.

The deadline for thesis submission is March 31, 2025.
