The Division is characterised by its ability to link the strategic objectives of the main funding bodies to the University's thematic priorities, enhancing the strengths of the University's research and promoting interdisciplinary research. It works in close synergy with the Departmental Districts, promoting collaboration between research staff and Research Units staff (Research Manager and Administrator) in order to better identify and interpret opportunities for researchers, in accordance with international best practices.The Division supervises the participation of teaching and research staff in internationally funded research programmes, dividing its activities into two areas:1. Coordination in the presentation and implementation (including financial) of international projects of great importance for the University and/or interdepartmental and complex projects, working in synergy with the departmental Offices to which the various scientific leaders belong; 2. Providing advice to departmental Offices, in particular to the Research Units of Departmental Districts, and to teaching and research staff on issues related to the submission of project proposals in response to international calls for proposals and the management of funded projects.The Division consists of two Units and two Domain Experts: Research Policy Unit and Domain Expert in R&I Policy Advisor, Individual Research Unit and Domain Expert in Interdisciplinary Research with Cultural and Social Impact. In summary, the Division: it promotes and plans European and international funding opportunities (e.g. NATO, United States, etc.), in line with the University's priorities and the guidelines of the Governance and Departmental Districts, and in collaboration with the Research Policy Unit and Domain Expert in R&I Policy Advisor. It promotes research programmes with a strong cultural and social impact through the Domain Expert in Interdisciplinary Research with Cultural and Social Impact. Through the Individual Research Unit, it promotes academic career development through participation in programmes for basic research, individual research and researcher mobility (e.g. ERC, FIS, MSCA, Young Researchers, COST) and calls for proposals that fund low TRL innovations or disruptive technologies (ERC PoC, EIC Pathfinder, FISA). It provides training and coaching to those submitting research project proposals and creates and nurtures networks of potential public and private partners for the establishment of project consortia in synergy with the Relations with Companies Unit.

Research Policy Unit
The Unit supports the strategic positioning of the Politecnico within the research and innovation system, actively contributing to policy and decision-making processes at regional, national and European level in the field of research and innovation, promoting the Science4Policy culture within the University, contributing to the R&I initiatives of the EU and non-EU scientific networks of which the University is a member, and enhancing the University's reputation within and outside the EU, in particular by strengthening the activities and coordination of the University's HUBs.
Domain Expert R&I Policy Advisor
She is responsible for the systematic collection of regional, national and EU policies and for promoting the University's participation in strategic research and innovation initiatives with a view to accrediting the University as an institutional scientific partner for key public and private decision-makers, promoting (including through the University's HUBs) lobbying, advocacy and networking activities to enhance the University's expertise and support research projects. Specifically, She promotes the University's positioning in funding programmes, coordinates the HUBS, strengthens strategic partnerships, organises networking and training activities. She collaborates with internal Offices for the internationalisation and enhancement of research management skills.

Individual Research Unit
The Unit promotes academic career development through participation in programmes for basic research, individual research and researcher mobility (e.g. ERC, FIS, MSCA, Young Researchers, PRIN, COST) and calls for proposals that fund innovations or disruptive technologies with low TRL (ERC PoC, EIC Pathfinder, FISA), as effective tools for the professional growth of qualified researchers. In particular, the Unit guides researchers in choosing calls for proposals, supports CV analysis, assists with participation in ERC and MSCA, promotes the attraction of candidates, provides advice on cross-cutting and management aspects of projects, coordinates audits and relations with funding bodies, and organises training sessions.
