Foresight and Strategic Planning Initiative

Vision

In 2022, Politecnico Board of Governors promoted the Sustainable Transition Initiative @Polito in order to strengthen the University's visibility and reputation locally, nationally and internationally as a center of expertise by leveraging its multidisciplinary and integrated expertise to assist institutions on complex societal challenges.

The project's challenge is to promote and strengthen the “PoliTO brand.” For archieving all this, the Foresight and Strategic Planning Initiative (FSP Initiative) was launched in 2024 to more effectively coordinate PoliTO's international networking strategy, particularly now as signs in Europe indicate that climate change is accelerating and energy issues are becoming increasingly complex.

Mission

  • Strengthening PoliTO's support to European and Italian institutions in their strategic decision-making processes related to sustainable, green and digital transitions.
  • Establishing strategic alliances at the institutional level with key European and International Organizations, so to contribute to ongoing studies on complex societal challenges.
  • Developing an agile and internationally recognized center of excellence to lead the entire Torino ecosystem.

Networking and partnership

The main goal of the FSP Initiative's international networking strategy is to develop solid relationships between Politecnico and key national, European and international organizations in the field of energy and climate (European Commission, European Parliament, International Organizations such as EUI, ESA, IEA).

At the national level, the main stakeholders are the Italian Ministries with expertise in energy, environment, economics, university and research: MASE, MIC, MUR etc., as well as the main research organizations ENEA, CNR, RSE etc.

PoliTO Energy and Climate High Level Group

PoliTO has set up in 2024 an Energy & Climate High Level Group (HLG) under the initiative of the Rector Stefano Paolo Corgnati, to enrich the FSP Initiative, by gathering a team of ten top-level and independent European experts (from Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, and UK) highly qualified on economics, technology, European law and policy. The team serves our University’s mission of Foresight and Strategic Planning.
