Infrastructure and Laboratories Technical Management Division

The Division coordinates the accreditation, technical management and development of the University’s laboratories and infrastructure. It provides technical, organisational and managerial support to research and service infrastructure, identified by the University as strategic assets to be managed in accordance with uniform models of access, use, safety and sustainability. It promotes and coordinates activities aimed at developing, maintaining and improving quality management systems for departmental laboratories and University infrastructure, encouraging the adoption of shared standards and the consolidation of technical and operational expertise. The Division also organises information and training activities for technical staff on quality systems and supports the coordination of the technical activities of the Departmental Districts, ensuring operational consistency with the guidelines of the Central Administration and promoting the optimisation and sharing of the University’s infrastructure.

The Unit promotes and coordinates activities aimed at the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of quality systems in central and departmental laboratories. In this context, the Unit: supervises the attainment and maintenance of ACCREDIA accreditations for laboratories and measuring instruments relating to the physical quantities currently accredited, and proposes new areas of accreditation; provides support for the information and training of Departmental Districts laboratory technical staff on quality systems; and develops targeted initiatives aimed at promoting and enhancing accreditations.

The Unit provides technical and operational coordination and managerial support for the University’s centrally managed research and service infrastructures, as well as for centrally managed laboratories, ensuring that activities are integrated with the relevant academic, administrative and technical offices. The Unit promotes the efficient use of infrastructure, the standardisation of operational processes and the monitoring of performance, facilitating access to resources for both the internal and external scientific communities. In this context, the Unit: provides support to the RUP, DEC and DL for the installation of particularly complex research equipment, liaising with the scientific community and the PROGES Department on matters within its remit; defines, implements and updates organisational models and operational procedures for the management and use of research infrastructure and centrally managed laboratories, ensuring their efficiency, safety and compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements; coordinates the planning and scheduling of access to infrastructure and laboratories; develops and manages systems for monitoring activities, access and the use of infrastructure; provides technical, scientific and operational support to internal and external users; identifies and assists in defining the technical, logistical and infrastructural requirements of research facilities, ensuring liaison with the relevant departments responsible for the planning, adaptation and management of spaces and related services; defines, coordinates and implements training and refresher programmes for infrastructure coordinators and technical staff involved in their management, in order to ensure adequate levels of competence and operational consistency.
