SAMBA Project: Promoting Health and Well-being at the University

Health, Physical Activity and Well-being in Academia

Health, Physical Activity and Well-being in Academia: these are the three pillars that give rise to the acronym SAMBA, summarizing the project dedicated to promoting psychophysical well-being within the university community.

Coordinated by the University of Turin, SAMBA was established through the collaboration of universities and AFAM institutions in Piedmont and the Aosta Valley. In addition to Politecnico di Torino, the network includes:

  1. University of Turin (lead institution);
  2. University of Gastronomic Sciences;
  3. “Giuseppe Verdi” State Conservatory of Music of Turin;
  4. Aosta Valley Institute of Music.

Activities include individual and group psychological support, study support services, and workshops on art, music, movement, nutrition and non-competitive sports. There are also prevention activities aimed at tackling addictions and risky behaviours.

The goal is to create a healthier, more inclusive and more aware university environment that can promote a balanced lifestyle and provide practical tools for addressing vulnerability, stress and adjustment difficulties.

The initiatives focus on five main areas of intervention:

  • psychological support through individual and group sessions, focused on anxiety management and emotional regulation;
  • assistance for students with study difficulties or Special Educational Needs (SEN);
  • prevention programs aimed at counteracting addictions and harmful behaviors;
  • workshops on art, conscious eating and overall well-being;
  • physical and sports activities.
