The “Centro Studi di Genere” (Centre for Gender Studies) of the Politecnico di Torino was established by Rector’s decree in 2024 with the aim of disseminating the gender perspective – also from an intersectional perspective – within the Politecnico. It promotes a systemic approach to the planning of new initiatives aimed at gender equality through in-depth research, with a specific focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines.
The Centro Studi supports the Politecnico Gender Equality Report process through:
- the study of data disaggregated according to the gender dimension, relating to the entire academic community, and their accurate analysis in the three-year Gender Equality Report;
- the informed identification of policies and actions suitable for the pursuit of strategic objectives for the achievement of gender equality in the academic community, also for the purpose of the three-year Gender Equality Plan (GEP) elaboration and implementation;
- the analysis of ex ante, in itinere and ex post evaluation tools of the gender impact of the policies proposed and/or implemented by the Politecnico.
The activities of the Centro Studi di Genere are also geared towards integrating the research already being pursued at the Politecnico on equal opportunities and the gender dimension into a systemic perspective, while at the same time promoting and fostering the integration of these topics in research, training and teaching. To this end, the PoliTO Gender Research Coordination Group (GReG) was created in 2022 – in implementation of an action of the Politecnico di Torino Gender Equality Plan 2021-24 – which also contributes to the activities related to the Politecnico third mission, through the organization and promotion of cultural events on equal opportunities, diversity and inclusiveness.

The Gender Research Coordination Group (GReG), created in 2022 as an action of the Gender Equality Plan 2021-2024, is part of the activities of the “Centro Studi di Genere” (Centre for Gender Studies) of the Politecnico di Torino to promote the culture of gender equality in the University, in STEAM disciplines and in society. In particular, it coordinates and promotes the adoption of the gender perspective in the University research activities.
GReG pursues the objective of fostering the emergence of an academic community that adopts the gender perspective across different scientific-disciplinary fields and the Politecnico missions. To this end, it contributes to:
- the promotion and coordination of gender research in the University;
- the Politecnico teaching offer at all levels, as far as equal opportunities issues and gender mainstreaming in STEAM disciplines are concerned;
- the organisation and promotion of cultural events on equal opportunities, diversity and inclusiveness.
GReG consists of open working groups. The following three meet periodically:
- Gender in Research
- Teaching and Learning
- Impact and Dissemination.
