  • PoliTO is a research-intensive, internationally-oriented university that carries out both academic and applied science research with a strong attention to its social and economic impact. Our university is highly focused on interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research and strives for international excellence. In an evolving global context subject to the effects of globalization, climate change, aging population, new and increasingly pervasive technologies, PoliTO intends to evolve as a “platform” University expected to be permeable, inclusive, open to the labor market and the industry, with a key role in innovation and lifelong learning. The goal is to become a driving force for societal sustainable development. To this end, the university actively collaborates with the industry and with other research partners to provide students with an academic education that is based on high-quality scientific research.

What is "Direct Recruitment"? Eligibility criteria

Tenured professor positions in Italy are normally awarded after a two-step procedure:

  1. ASN - Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale (national scientific qualification) managed by national government authorities for all scientific disciplinary fields (SSD - Settore Scientifico Disciplinare);
  2. Public competition organized by each university (open only to applicants who already hold the ASN)

Italian Universities, under national legislation, may also hire tenured professors (both associate or full professors) without the above-mentioned procedure in specific cases (so-called Direct Recruitment) to enhance the Internationalization process of universities:

  • Principal Investigators (PI) of European Research Council (ERC) “Starting Grant," "Consolidator Grant", "Advanced Grant"

OR

  • Professors who have/had an equivalent position for at least three years at universites or research institutes in Italy or abroad, according to a national "conversion table" released by the Italian Government

OR

  • Professors with a 5-year experience in an equivalent position at another Italian university

Individuals who intend to apply for "Direct Recruitment" must not have worked at Polito, they must not have been enrolled in any degree programme not have been beneficiaries of a research fellowship over the last three-year period.
