Amazon Women in Innovation rewards deserving female STEM students

The call for applications for the fifth edition of "Amazon Women in Innovation", the scholarship project funded by Amazon and aimed at young female university students in STEM fields enrolled at the Polytechnic, is online. The 3-year scholarship consists of a grant of 6,000 euros per year to a female student from the Atheneum of Turin. Amazon will also provide the winner with a mentor, i.e., an Amazon manager who can help her develop skills useful for future work, such as, for example, techniques for creating an effective resume or facing a job interview.
To compete, applicants must have first enrolled in the Italian university system in the academic year 2022/2023 in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering or the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (Computer Engineering) at the Polytechnic University of Turin, have earned at least 20 CFUs, useful for the achievement of the degree, as of 02/25/2023, and have reported a weighted average of at least 24/30. "Incentivizing and helping deserving young women to pursue study paths in STEM disciplines is a mission that Politecnico di Torino has shared with the Amazon Women in Innovation initiative since the beginning, for all 5 editions, because it is consistent with the University's Equal Opportunity policies. In a society where social inequalities are increasingly worsening, the Polytechnic pursues curricula to support and encourage girls so that they can fulfill their ambition to work in innovation and technology. Inclusion is achieved starting with concrete actions, such as funding scholarships that increase diversity and enhance talent regardless of gender," emphasizes Claudia De Giorgi, Vice Rector for Quality Welfare and Equal Opportunity at Politecnico.
"With the 'Amazon Women in Innovation' project, we want to support and concretely accompany young women in acquiring the right skills in STEM disciplines to compete on an equal footing in their future work experiences in this field that is still not very accessible to girls today," says Mariangela Marseglia, VP and Country Manager of Amazon.it and Amazon.es. "There is still a lot to be done but I am proud of this project, which is enriched year by year with the addition of new Universities. Clear sign that we are on the right track. We look forward to meeting the winners of this fifth edition, to whom I already wish a future full of satisfaction."
"Amazon Women in Innovation" is part of Amazon's "Amazon in the Community" program to support the growth of the next generation in the digital world, and the scholarships aim to incentivize and help deserving young women to pursue studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines and launch career paths in the innovation and technology sector. The universities involved, in addition to the Polytechnic of Turin, are the Polytechnic of Milan, the University of Rome "Tor Vergata," the University of Cagliari and, as of this year, the University of Palermo and the University Federico II of Naples. All universities will choose the winners based on merit and income parameters, as specified in the calls for applications.
"Amazon Women in Innovation" was established in 2018 and, to date, for the fifth consecutive year, continues to support and incentivize young female university students who are passionate about STEM subjects.
The initiative involves a total of six universities and has been extended to two additional Italian institutions, the University of Palermo and the University Federico II of Naples, thus reaching two more areas in Southern Italy, confirming the success it has enjoyed over the course of the various editions. To date, the project has awarded thirteen deserving young people through the disbursement of 13 scholarships, each worth 6,000 euros. With the fifth edition, six more new female students will have access to this opportunity for the continuation of their university career and to acquire the necessary skills to face the challenges of the world of work
