Access to the libraries and services of the University Library System is restricted to students, professors, collaborators and guests of the Politecnico di Torino with badges.
External users, i.e. those who need to use library services for study and research purposes, can contact the library of interest.
The services to which one can be entitled as an external user vary from one library to another.
On-site consultation of library holdings is free for all users.
The loan service is provided by all the Politecnico libraries, which define:
- works eligible for loan;
- the authorised user categories;
- and its conditions.
Lendability and loan duration vary depending on the characteristics of the material and the user.
As a rule, rare and valuable works, journals and theses are excluded from lending.
The loan service is personal and the borrower is responsible for the integrity of the volume and undertakes to return it by the due date.
The DigProxy Service allows authorised users, after authentication, to consult digital subscription resources by connecting from locations outside the University network.
To use this service, it is necessary to be an institutional user of the Politecnico in possession of the regular access credentials and to fill in the appropriate application form the first time.
The Library Service collaborates with the Special Needs Unit to offer solutions to improve accessibility to the University’s services and library heritage:
In PICO, through the “Sign In” button and after providing the University’s authentication credentials, users can access to the personal area, which offers them the possibility of using customised services, such as saving and organising searches formulated, and records of interest, relating both to the catalogue and to electronic resources and the PORTO institutional archive.
In addition, it is possible to consult their personal information, loans, renewal and history loans.
The document delivery service allows:
- users (institutional, PhD students and master’s and master’s degree students)
To request, via the Document Delivery (DD) service, articles and parts of books not owned or not accessible from the PICO university catalogue;
To request documents from others Universities library or research institutions, users should submit request to their designated reference library, which will then forward your request.
- libraries to request reproductions of items in the PICO catalogue.
Libraries operating on a reciprocal system must use the Nilde circuit.
The service is provided in compliance with current copyright law (L.633 of 22/4/1941 and subsequent amendments).
Internal users may send to the Library a proposal to purchase a book, periodical or electronic resource not included in the catalogue. Please consult the Library catalogue carefully before sending it.
The proposal to purchase a book will be posted on a public blog, where users can comment so in order to allow an exchange of opinions on it.
