Electronic resources

Access to subscription electronic resources (journals, e-books, databases) is enabled for all IP addresses within the Politecnico. All the University’s institutional users (lecturers, researchers, technical-administrative staff, PhD students, research fellows, students) can also access freely and free of charge even from outside the Politecnico by subscribing to the DigProxy service.

To register, you must fill in the appropriate application form.

The collections of electronic resources made available by the Library System include Databases and Subscription electronic journals and E-books.

Pursuant to Art. 1, paragraph 1, of the decree-law no. 72 of 22 March 2004, as amended by conversion law no. 128 of 21 May 2004, the Library System of the Politecnico di Torino hereby announces that all the contents of the electronic resources available under the University’s contract are covered by copyright, as well as by the contractual clauses limiting their use stipulated with the respective publishers. It is therefore forbidden to reproduce them in their entirety on any medium, and any commercial use without the explicit permission of the publisher.

The terms and conditions of use of electronic resources are defined in the clauses of the contracts signed with the Publishers. In the event of violation of the rules of use, the Publishers have the right to suspend access to the resources for all University users.

The responsibility for any violations falls upon the individual user.

As a rule, according to the licences, access to electronic resources is reserved to authorised users: lecturers, students, Politecnico di Torino administrative technical staff, all those with a formal research and teaching relationship with the University and occasional users admitted to the library services.

It is the responsibility of the individual user to ensure that electronic resources are only consulted for research, study and teaching purposes; any use for profit-making or commercial purposes is prohibited. No economic activities may be carried out in competition with the publisher (resale of information content).

Each individual user licence may provide for specific or additional permissions or prohibitions.

In general:

it is allowed to:

  • download, print, save a reasonable number of copies of documents for personal, teaching or research use
  • share documents only with other institutional or authorised users
  • include links to specific content of subscription resources on institutional websites or in teaching materials

it is not allowed to:

  • download, print or copy materials and/or large quantities of data in a systematic or massive manner, even by means of specific software (robots, spiders, crawlers, algorithms, etc.), even on a non-profit basis. Similarly, the downloading of entire files is not allowed
  • share documents with unauthorised users outside the Politecnico di Torino or circulate confidential access passwords
  • send content and documents to websites, modify, alter, create derivative works without permission. It is forbidden to delete the copyright from the reproduced documents

1. Databases

The University subscribes to the main databases of interest for its subject areas. To consult a database, see the list and access it directly by clicking on the link to the resource.

2. Electronic journals

The University takes out a large number of subscriptions to packages and collections of electronic journals in the subject areas of interest to the Politecnico.

In PICO it is possible to search both individual e-journals and articles, and to access the full-text directly when provided for in the subscription.

It is possible to search for the individual e-journal in “Find journal”.

3. E-books

You can consult a wide selection of books in electronic format (e-books) from Italian and foreign publishers in all subject areas, the number of which is constantly increasing.

A wide selection of e-books in the subject areas of interest to the Politecnico is available. The collection is constantly enriched with new acquisitions of both individual titles and collections.

You can search for e-books directly in PICO and access the full-text directly.

Technical Standards

The complete collection of UNI standards is available in the Central Engineering Library in the following ways:

  • complete collection up to the year 2012 in paper format that can be consulted directly in the library;
  • from the year 2013 onwards: available online after user registration.

Consultation of both collections is restricted to students, lecturers and staff of the Politecnico di Torino.

ACCESS THE RESOURCE

The platform provides access to: 

  • EN standards, published by CEN and CENELEC, adopted by BSI (100% of ENs are adopted by BSI);
  • ISO standards adopted by BSI (94% of pure ISOs are adopted by BSI);
  • native BSI standards.

The subscription includes both current and withdrawn standards, which may be viewed, printed and downloaded within the limits of the terms of use, and used for study and research purposes only. It is forbidden to make any use other than the institutional one or to provide the standards to unauthorised third parties.

ACCESS THE RESOURCE

The ASTM Compass subscription database includes the standards and publications (journals and e-books) of the American Society for Testing Materials.

More than 12,500 standards, 123,000 pages of articles published in ASTM journals, 1,500 e-books, 29,000 technical reports and conference proceedings are accessible.
