Why do an internship abroad after graduation?
An internship abroad is an important educational experience that enriches not only your resume but also your personal and cultural journey.
It allows you to:
- develop soft skills such as adaptability, intercultural communication, and the ability to navigate new and challenging environments;
- improve your language proficiency by using a foreign language daily in a professional context;
- gain insight into international work environments with different methodologies, approaches, and corporate cultures compared to Italy;
- increase your competitiveness on the job market by building a more open, dynamic, and international profile—study-abroad experiences are highly valued on graduates’ resumes;
- build a global network of contacts that could be useful for future collaborations or career opportunities.
You can do an internship abroad after completing your studies and only after your academic record has been updated by Polito offices.
The regulations of graduate internships abroad are different from the regulations for interships in Italy and they change depending on the country:
- in some countries extracurricular internships may not be paid;
- in some countries you may need an entry visa;
- some countries exclusively allow curricular internships for students and not for graduates (before initiating the process, check with the host institution if according to local regulations recent graduates can do an internship through the University). The host organisation should email the regulatory references to tirocini@polito.it before initiating the procedures.
First of all you need to agree the internship content, terms, schedule and duty station with your Host Organization. It is is important that you prepare the required documents (internship agreement) BEFORE the internship begins, following the accreditation of the Host Organization on Politecnico portal.
Send a TICKET from your personal page on the Teaching Portal – "Internships and Career Hub" section. If needed, we will contact you to schedule a phone appointment.
Do not write to tirocini@polito.it since your e-mail will not be taken into consideration. You must always use the Ticketing Support System. This e-mail address is reserved for host organizations only!
PLEASE NOTE: the following questions must not be addresses to the Career Hub but should be sent to the competent offices (Registrar's Office, Admissions and Tuition Fees Unit, International Mobility Unit and Immigration Help Desk): questions about internships or thesis at an Institution/Company which require a modification of the Study Plan; deadlines for graduation or for paying tuition fees; requests for certificates; information on mobility programmes and residence permit.
