ISM4Italy - Infrastructure for Sustainable Mobility addresses the growing demand for more sustainable mobility. The transport sector faces the challenge of meeting the increasing demand for affordable mobility while simultaneously reducing congestion, improving safety, and cutting emissions. Research in sustainable aviation aims to lower the carbon intensity of flights and enhance the overall sustainability of the aviation ecosystem.
Moreover, advanced technologies such as flight simulation, artificial intelligence (AI), and virtual reality (VR) are playing a crucial role in accelerating the transition toward sustainable mobility.
The project has a total value of 4 million euros and is funded by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
Politecnico di Torino, in a public-private partnership with the company TXT e-solutions S.p.A., coordinates the initiative.
The project will focus on the creation of three specialized laboratories with the following main objectives:
• Development of autonomous drone technologies, with particular attention to integrated onboard control systems and solutions for ground and remote operations management;
• Implementation of advanced flight simulation technologies, not only for individual aircraft but also for the entire air traffic management infrastructure, at both national and international levels;
• Application of innovative technologies such as extended reality (XR) and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the training of pilots and ground personnel.
Politecnico di Torino will coordinate the activities of the three laboratories, leveraging its advanced expertise in the relevant fields of innovation and promoting collaboration with local industrial stakeholders. This will contribute to enhancing the region’s competitiveness and strengthening the supply chain at both national and international levels, with a positive impact on the creation of high-skilled employment.
