Becoming involved as a researcher means first and foremost getting to know the environment in which you are working. This section helps you find your way around Politecnico di Torino, through welcome events and tools designed to help you plan your growth right from the start.
The onboarding meeting is a welcome event for postdoctoral researchers on fixed-term contracts. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover how the University is organized, explore the support services available, and connect with colleagues from different Departments.
Held twice a year, the onboarding meeting is open to those who have started working within the past semester. Eligible participants will receive a personal invitation by email.
For more information, please find below the Vademecum containing all the details about the services dedicated to the University’s Researchers.
The Individual Development Plan (IDP) is a key tool for the personal and professional growth of research fellows. It is an online document that you can complete directly from your personal page, helping you to:
- Set short- and long-term development goals
- Discuss and clarify mutual expectations with your scientific supervisor
- Reflect on your path and track your progress
- Plan career paths, including options beyond academia
The Career Hub provides support and resources to make completing your IDP easier and to encourage open and constructive dialogue with your supervisor.

As part of the UNITE! – The University Network for Innovation, Technology, and Engineering, of which PoliTO is a member, two tools have been developed to help researchers at technical universities reflect on their careers and plan their professional growth.
Discover them below.
Being easily reachable and visible online is essential to foster collaborations and advance your career. The first step is creating an online profile that showcases and highlights your skills.
There are many platforms and websites available. The short course Building a Strong Online Researcher Profile helps you identify the right ones, choose the best fit for you, and understand how to create and optimize your online researcher profile to increase visibility and maximize your chances of success in today’s interconnected digital landscape.
Your personal profile on PoliTO's website
The Researcher Profile is a strategic tool for mapping and showcasing your expertise. It brings together data related to your scientific output, research projects, patents and other relevant information about your research activity in a single, public space that is searchable online using keywords, researcher name, project title and research lines.
Some sections are automatically synchronized with the national database LoginMIUR and university systems (e.g., projects, teaching, patents, publications).
You are responsible for keeping the following sections up to date:
- CV: personal and professional details relevant to your research career.
- Skills: include Keywords, Research Lines, ERC sectors, and SDGs.
- Scientific Responsibilities, Other Activities and Positions, Skills: these summarize your research trajectory and institutional roles.
Keep your profile updated in IRIS, with particular attention to the “CV” and “Skills” sections. You’ll find the guidelines below.
An updated profile increases visibility, opens up networking opportunities and supports participation in funded projects and collaborations. Keeping it current ensures your competences and research interests are visible.
