Students of the Bachelor's degree programme in Environmental and Land Engineering have the opportunity to participate in study visits and field trips that allow them to deepen the contents covered in the classroom from a more applicative point of view.
The trips may include both field activities and visits to industrial sites operating in fields that are related to the study programme.
The following are some of the visits realized in recent times:
Val Borbera, May 2024
Courses: Geologia Applicata, Idraulica and Topografia
The students were able to carry out flow measurements of the Borbera River, topographical measurements of the riverbed/river banks and to observe the river morphology and sedimentary rocks outcropping in the area.
Robilante and Entracque (CN), May 2024
Courses: Geotecnica and Geologia Applicata
Visit to the Sibelco Italia site in Robilante, observation of quarrying and production of silica for the construction and agricultural industry; hike on the municipal road, serving the quarry and the plants, with a visit to the geotechnical road repair work describing and contextualizing the outcrops of geological formations.
Visit to Diga della Piastra in Entracque, description of the structural and geotechnical scheme of the dam and the tests carried out to check the stability of the slopes interacting with the reservoir.
Traversella Mine, May 2024
Course: Geologia Applicata
Observation of crystalline rocks (metamorphic and intrusive igneous rocks) and mineralisation within the 'Anglo-Sarda' Gallery. Stratimetric measurements taken with a geologist's compass.
Field activities, June 2021
Annual multidisciplinary field trip. The students of the Bachelor’s Degree programme in Environmental and Land Engineering have carried out activities of environmental chemistry, applied ecology, topography, applied geology, hydraulics and urban mobility.

SMAT plant in Castiglion Torinese (TO), December 2023
Course: Environmental Sanitary Engineering
The students of the course Environmental Sanitary Engineering have visited SMAT waste water treatment plant in Castiglion Torinese. Eng. Luisa Querio Gianetto, plant operation manager, has accompanied the group during the visit.

Study visit to SMAT water purification plant in Turin (Maroncelli roundabout). The plant treats water drawn from the Po river and makes it into drinking water for the citizen of Turin.
L'Oréal Saipo Industriale, Settimo Torinese (TO)
Course: Ingegneria Sanitaria Ambientale
After being instructed on the safety procedures, the students have visited the production line of: shampoos/conditioners, mascara, foundation and powders, the automated warehouse, the area for the temporary waste storage, the water cycle and the main plant for the anaerobic digestion created in the framework of the collaboration between DIATI and L’Oréal.
