Researcher Ombudsperson

In line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers (Annex II to the Council Recommendation of the European Union of 18 December 2023, C/2023/1640), Politecnico di Torino has established the role of the Research Staff Ombudsperson.

The Ombudsperson is governed by the University Regulations governing the Research Staff Ombudsperson, issued by Rectoral Decree no. 813 of 11 July 2025.

Role

The Research Staff Ombudsperson is an impartial and super partes figure who provides informal, free of charge and confidential support to members of the research staff of Politecnico di Torino in the management of complaints, appeals and conflict situations, with particular attention to the early stages of research careers.

The Ombudsperson’s activity is inspired by the Complaints and Appeals principle of the European Charter for Researchers and aims to ensure fair treatment of reported situations, contributing to the improvement of the quality of the working environment.

Recourse to the Ombudsperson does not replace the formal procedures provided for by current regulations, nor does it replace judicial remedies.

Target group

Research staff refers to researchers at Politecnico di Torino at all stages of their career and with any role, starting from the doctoral level.

Appointment

The Ombudsperson is appointed following a call for expressions of interest, addressed to emerita and emeritus professors, professors of Politecnico di Torino who have left service no more than three years previously, and professors external to the University.

The appointment has a two-year duration, renewable once, and is carried out on an unpaid basis.

The Ombudsperson takes charge of cases upon written request by the interested party, who must submit the request by email to garante.ricercatori@polito.it
