Biography

  • Anantaram Varatharajan obtained his bachelors in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from BITS Pilani University, India in 2013.
  • He was a research intern in TU Dresden, Germany from 2013-2014, focussing on the study of harmonic emission of electric vehicles.
  • In 2016, he graduated in M.Sc in 'Sustainable Transportation and Electrical Power Systems' from Erasmus Mundus master course organized by consortium comprising of University of Oviedo, University of Nottingham, Sapienza University of Rome and Politecnico di Coimbra.
  • Since 2017, he has been a doctorate student at Politecnico di Torino with Prof. Gianmario Pellegrino. His research interests include control and commissioning of synchronous motor drives.

Awards and Honors

  • Sensorless (or self-sensing, or encoder-less) control refers to closed-loop controlling the Synchronous Reluctance motor without using a rotor position encoder for synchronization of the control reference frame to the rotor phase angle and/or for evaluation of the speed of revolution. A novel technique is envisaged to tackle the adverse influence of stator resistance variations and inverter voltage errors on stability of position observer. The proposed scheme, Adaptive Projection vector for Position error estimation (APP), is inherently immune to voltage estimate errors on the maximum torque per amps (MTPA) trajectory. (2020)
