J-Tech focuses on joining technologies. Its mission is to develop advanced assembly techniques of the materials, to obtain joints with superior properties compared to traditional ones, enabling the production of smart, durable, and reliable components. The related activities include coatings, materials characterization, and the quality control of the joints by means of destructive and non-destructive tests. The presence of prestigious equipment and the combination of skills make the Centre a unicum in Italy, which aims to become a national and international benchmark for both industry and research.

Goals

  • Reduce the energy and environmental impact of industrial processes
  • Bridge the national gap in joining technology expertise

Supporting Italy’s Archaeological Heritage

J-Tech examined a gold archaeological artifact dating back to the 4th century AD to analyze its contents without damaging it. Through CT scanning, researchers were able to inspect the interior of the artifact non-destructively, gaining new insights into its manufacturing technique and creating a 3D model.
