Restoration

Restoration has developed some shared cultural guidelines, including overcoming a Eurocentric view of conservation and restoration, identifying the heritage to be preserved and restored in conjunction with communities, cultural sustainability as a goal of the restoration project for architectural and landscape assets, the international recognition of heritage values at all levels, reflecting on the contemporary value of the concepts of conservation, restoration, and compatible reuse.

The guidelines also propose an innovative historiographic approach, which considers the material data of heritage; theoretical and methodological reflection as a prerequisite for restoration projects; the use or experimentation of innovative diagnostic investigation tools; better and more effective communication of project phases and site operations through live restoration; experimentation of internationally shared intervention methodologies and techniques (traditional, innovative, mixed); new materials and new technologies compatible with heritage; and full awareness of regulations and site techniques in the background of quality processes which also involve the conservation and restoration domains.
