From Widening to Transformation: European Universities as Engines of Inclusion and Innovation
Can university alliances evolve from structured cooperation into a more integrated part of Europe’s research and innovation landscape? This is the key question at the heart of the conference “From Widening to Transformation: European Universities as Engines of Inclusion and Innovation”, taking place in Brussels on 17–18 June 2026.
The event, organised within the Unite!Widening project and hosted at the NCBR Brussels office, builds on the European “widening” agenda, aiming to strengthen collaboration among universities and enhance research capacity across EU Member States.
The programme will address topics such as governance models in transnational university networks, the translation of research into practical applications and mobility within the European Higher Education Area, as well as the alignment between university strategies and EU policy priorities.
Participants will include representatives from European institutions, academia and research governance. The conference will also showcase experiences from countries such as Poland and Portugal, along with initiatives like the “Digital Bridges” framework, designed to support stronger participation of widening-region universities in European research programmes.
Registration deadline: 14 June 2026
