Hybrid Propulsion Systems for Maritime Decarbonisation: SOFFHICE Final Workshop
The SOFFHICE project - SOFC Hybridization with Internal Combustion Engine fueled by Natural Gas for Maritime Applications will host its final workshop, entitled “Hybrid Propulsion Systems for Maritime Decarbonisation”, on 30 January 2026, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, as an online webinar.
The event will showcase the key scientific and technological results of the SOFFHICE project, with a specific focus on the integration of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) and Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) as a promising pathway towards low-emission maritime propulsion. In addition, the workshop will offer a broader overview of the current challenges and opportunities in maritime decarbonisation, fostering dialogue between academia, industry, and technology developers.
The activities for Politecnico were developed by the research group of the Galileo Ferraris Energy Department-DENERG, composed of professor Marta Gandiglio, professor Massimo Santarelli, professor Paolo Marocco and Ph.D. candidate in Energetica Gabriele Peyrani.
The programme will open with a welcome and introductory session by professor Marta Gandiglio and during the event will also speak professor Paolo Marocco.
The final workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of the project’s outcomes and future perspectives, featuring technical presentations by project partners (University of Genova and University of Bologna) alongside high-level contributions from RINA, Fincantieri, Bluenergy Revolution, DLR and VTT. The event will conclude with a roundtable discussion, offering an opportunity for exchange on the role of hybrid fuel-cell-based technologies as one of the most promising solutions for the decarbonisation of maritime transport, particularly for short-sea shipping and port emission reduction.
Participation is free of charge upon registration. To register, please click here.
