New Ruralities Talk

The NERU (New Ruralities) Design Competition invited students and recent graduates to creatively reimagine rural living in the context of fragile European landscapes. This initiative, supported by Erasmus+, aims to highlight the critical evolution of rural areas that are facing challenges related to territorial interconnectivity, an aging population, and significant economic transformation. Participants are encouraged to propose innovative architectural interventions in three distinct regions: the flatlands of Flanders, the scenic Iberian valleys, and the majestic Italian Alps. Each proposal should capture the dynamic and multifaceted nature of rurality.
The competition seeks to inspire transformative ideas that redefine the relationships between rural and urban spaces, emphasizing hybrid typologies for living and production. By doing so, it aims to generate a lasting vision for sustainable rural futures across Europe, fostering a deeper understanding of how these regions can thrive in an ever-changing world.

Within the framework of this initiative, we are proud to welcome three distinguished architects who will engage in a dialogue about their impactful work and projects addressing the pressing issues and challenges currently faced in rural areas.

Momoyo Kaijima (ETH Zurich / Atelier Bow-Wow), Niklas Fanelsa (TU Munich / Atelier Fanelsa), and Juan Chacón (UDK Berlin / Zuloark) will share their insights and experiences in a stimulating debate moderated by researcher Silvia Lanteri and professor Roberto Dini of Politecnico di Torino.

Students and colleagues are welcome to join the talk.
