The PoliTo-Ryukoku International Workshop on Social Innovation in Remote Rural Areas has kicked-off!

The international workshop jointly organized by the Polytechnic University of Turin and Ryukoku University of Kyoto has kicked off in the first week of July. The focus of the workshop is on the role of social innovation processes in addressing the challenges faced by remote rural areas in Italy and Japan.

The workshop, coordinated by Magda Bolzoni and Giancarlo Cotella (Politecnico di Torino) and Naoko Oishi and Daisuke Abe (Ryukoku University), implements the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the rectors of the two universities exactly one year ago in Kyoto, during the opening of the PoliTo Japan-Hub. The activities will see ten students from various master's degree programs offered by the two universities tackle the challenges faced by selected rural areas in promoting more sustainable and inclusive development paths.

The kickoff took place online on Monday, July the 5th, in the presence of Fulvio Corno, Vice-Rector for Education pf Politecnico di Torino, and Takafumi Nakamori, Dean of the Graduate School of Political Science at Ryukoku University, as well as Michele Bonino, Director of the PoliTo Japan-Hub.

The activities will resume in September when the students and involved professors will meet in Kyoto for an intensive one-week workshop focused on the Seki, Nantan area Nantan.
