Mobile Telecommunication Data for Mobility Analysis: use cases and applications
Knowing mobility, in space and time, in order to build decisions on it for both the planning and operation of transport systems has been a daunting task for decades. With the new century and the global spread of two-way personal communication systems, it is possible, within certain limits of accuracy, to track smartphones and their owners. Many applications have been developed in the last few years, from the flows of people in the nodes of a transport network, such as stations, to the choice of station locations based on actual flows of people, and of course other factors that the planner of a transport system typically knows. The correlation between flows and the capacity of a linear infrastructure (network arc) also makes it possible to use mobile probes in addition to other fixed devices or densors that have long been used. The seminar will summarise these experiences in the field of mobile communications.
