Politecnico di Torino and Institute of Science Tokyo: a new milestone in scientific collaboration
On Friday, September 4, Lorenzo Baglieri defended his PhD thesis in Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Torino. Lorenzo presented his research, entitled “Hands-Free Human-Machine Interfaces: Design and Testing of Two Approaches for Rider Assistance of Electric-Powered Wheelchairs”, carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Science Tokyo.
His research addresses a highly relevant challenge shared by both Italy and Japan: supporting vulnerable communities and responding to the needs of an ageing population through the development of innovative technologies.
Lorenzo is also the first PhD student to complete a joint supervision programme between Politecnico di Torino and the Institute of Science Tokyo, made possible by the agreement signed during the first mission of the Director of the Japan Hub in November 2024. Thanks to this agreement, Lorenzo was able to carry out his research under the supervision of Prof. Daisuke Matsuura and Tsune Kobayashi, further strengthening the scientific collaboration between the two institutions.
