The PoliTO Japan Hub Visits NIED Research Facilities in Japan
From 13 to 20 December, a delegation from the PoliTO Japan Hub of the Politecnico di Torino, consisting of Prof. Fabrizio Barpi and Dr. Gianmarco Vallero (both from the DISEG Department), visited several research infrastructures of the NIED (National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience in Japan).
The first stop was at the Tsukuba Headquarters; subsequently, the delegation visited two world-class facilities: the Large-scale Rainfall Simulator (Tsukuba) and E-Defense (Miki), which hosts the Three-Dimensional Full-Scale Earthquake Testing Facility.
The visit provided an extremely stimulating opportunity for discussion, strengthening mutual understanding between our University and leading Japanese research institutions. Key topics of shared relevance to both countries were addressed, including natural hazards, cultural heritage protection, and resilience, laying a solid foundation for future scientific collaborations.
