WIP - Wood Innovative Path Summer School

WIP Summer School

The Wood Innovative Path Summer School is conceived as an advanced educational environment where scientific research, design creativity, and technological innovation converge into a single integrated vision. It is a 7-day intensive program, organized by the Drawing TO the Future Lab (DISEG), aimed at guiding students through a multidisciplinary journey. The program explores how green spaces and biophilic design can profoundly enhance human well-being—reducing stress, restoring cognitive clarity, and nurturing emotional balance.

This Summer School is more than just a training experience. Through a combination of expert-led lectures, interactive activities in nature, project pitches, and a final theatrical performance, participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of how to observe, represent, and interpret reality—progressing from physical surveying to digital modeling and ultimately to scenic narration.

Dates and location

The Summer School will take place on July 19th–25th, 2026, in Politecnico di Torino (Italy)
The event will be hosted at the Drawing TO the Future Lab with additional activities held in historic parks and a forest landscape.

Target group

The school is open to a maximum of 20 final-year Bachelor’s and Master’s students interested in a laboratory of ideas, where “the beauty that heals,” resilience, and sustainability become the protagonists of a shared narrative capable of inspiring generations of creative professionals of the future.

Detailed program

Sunday 19 (afternoon)Welcome coffee in the Royal Gardens: an immersive beginning.
Monday 20With a focus on biodiversity, the program explores the concept of the “living forest” as a metaphor for the connection between innovation, sustainability, and beauty, emphasizing the role of green spaces in the historic city.
Tuesday 21With a focus on biophilia, the activity unfolds through moments of observation and surveying in outdoor green spaces, particularly within the park of Racconigi Castle.
Wednesday 22With a focus on resilience, the experience takes place in the forest of Piedicavallo, where students and professors engage in walking-based observation and measurement, experiencing nature and benefiting directly from its qualities.
Thursday 23With a focus on technology, the journey moves beyond the visible, transforming physical perception into immersive digital models in XR—where reality is reinterpreted and extended.
Friday 24With a focus on sustainability, the path explores the potential of green systems, showing how trees, gardens, and green roofs can act as natural infrastructures—integrating with the city while generating value, beauty, and resilience.
Saturday 25The final stage of the Summer School, The Stage of Ideas: the Grand Finale, is when ideas take shape and find their voice. In this highly anticipated moment, they come to life on stage. After days of exploration, workshops, and collaborative work with diverse technologies, students present a performance that blends science, art, and future visions.
