Biography

Objectives: The project aims at developing and validating models to predict the effect of wear on the contact surfaces and on their ability to dissipate energy by damping, thus affecting the dynamics of structures with friction contacts. Validated models will be embedded in nonlinear solvers for the forced response of turbine components.

Expected Results: Experimental data set from ‘Wear test rig’ available at POLITO to characterize wear rate of a single friction contact. Numerical solver for the forced response of structures with friction contacts. Test rig for the forced response of a structure with friction contacts. Comparison of experiments with numerical predictions.
