Biography

Francesca Abastante holds a Master’s degree in Architecture and a PhD in Urban and Regional Development from Politecnico di Torino. She is currently Associate Professor at the Interuniversity Department of Regional and Urban Studies and Planning (DIST), Politecnico di Torino. Her research expertise focuses on sustainability assessment and strategic urban planning through the use of indicators, with particular attention to decision-making integration, Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA), and financial analyses supporting complex urban decisions. She is the Scientific Coordinator of the PRIN project GLOSSA (A Glocal Knowledge System for Sustainability Assessment) and actively participates in numerous national and international research projects, including MAINCODE (DUT), DEMO4PPL (Erasmus+), and TERRES (ESPON). She has contributed as member and scientific coordinator to several research initiatives, such as MOLOC (2018–2021), LOTUS (2019–2022), BIG/OPEN DATA AND SPATIAL ANALYTICS, CHIOMONTE 2025 and CHIOMONTE SMART (2010–2013), DIMMER (2013–2017), SHAPE ENERGY (2017–2019), and QUICHE. In addition, she has worked closely with the Housing Program of Compagnia di San Paolo (CSP – programhousing.it), addressing social and energy sustainability issues in response to the growing demand for housing. Since 2016, she has been teaching in both undergraduate and graduate programs in Architecture, Planning, and Design, and is responsible for postgraduate Master’s modules. She is also a member of the PhD Board in Urban and Regional Development. She is co-author of numerous scientific publications and serves as representative of the TeachingLab at Politecnico di Torino for the Planning Board, as well as member of the University’s Joint Teaching Committee.
