IAM (Integrated Additive Manufacturing) is a multidisciplinary research platform dedicated to tackling the challenges of Additive Manufacturing (AM). With a focus on materials, machines, and applications, its mission is to meet the different needs of industry and co-develop next-generation systems for end-use production.
The Center works on the development of metallic, polymeric, and ceramic materials, advanced component testing, Design for AM (DfAM), and non-conventional finishing techniques. Covering the entire AM value chain, IAM supports the transition toward more sustainable industrial models.

Goals

  • Produce more sustainable products using new materials and simplified processes
  • Meet the needs of industry players and co-design innovative systems for final production

Technology & Research Infrastructures

The IAM Interdepartmental Center relies on the Integrated Additive Manufacturing @ Politecnico di Torino Research Infrastructure, offering a complete AM production chain for both metallic and polymeric materials.

Research and innovation infrastructures (RIs) are facilities, resources, and services used by the scientific community to conduct research and foster innovation.

Best paper award

IAM received recognition at the International Conference on Advances in Materials, Mechanics, Mechatronics and Manufacturing (IC4M 2021) for the paper Experimental testing of 3D printed polymeric heat exchangers. The study used Grafylon filament—a polylactic acid (PLA) material containing pure graphene nanoplatelets (GNP)—for 3D printing heat exchangers.

Best speaker certificate “Gualtiero Gusmano prize”

IAM was awarded at the XIII INSTM Conference for the contribution "Production, characterization and feasibility of innovative Al-Fe alloys for laser powder-bed fusion technology". From the aluminium alloy AlSi10Mg and AISI 304L steel, some powders were produced by gas-atomization using the Laser Powder Bed Fusion technology.
