FAQs

This section is dedicated to the most frequently asked questions related to the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering. The information is categorized with the aim of providing a clear and structured reference to different themes.

Is it necessary to have the certificate B2 of English for the enrollment in Computer Engineering in English?
No, no B2 language certificate is required for the bachelor’s degree.

Does the Polytechnic accept the TOLC provided by CISIA?
No. The entrance test is the TIL, conducted directly by the Polytechnic.

When will the entry test rankings be published?
After the last TIL.

What happens if I’m on the waiting list?
Being on a waiting list means that you are not yet eligible for registration. It will be necessary to wait for the vacant posts to become available.

Can I register in the second or third choice if I am admitted in the first?
No, it’s not possible.

Does the TIL have a deadline?
Yes, the TIL is only valid for the year in which it takes place.

What are the minimum requirements for a PC to take courses?
A mid-range PC is sufficient to perform all tasks.

What is the difference between Computer Engineering and Informatics?
Computer Engineering includes, in addition to computer science, subjects such as electrical engineering, electronics, automation and communications.

What are extra credits?
These are additional credits that can be included in the study plan, up to a maximum of 12 CFU in addition to the 180 required for the three-year course. The additional credits, as a rule, will not be removed from the teaching load at the time of application in the final exam registration stage and will be part of the calculation of the final average.

I made a change to the courses of the Career Plan, instead of "Proceed with the teaching load" appears "Proceed with the application". Does this mean that I will have to wait for the approval without being able to fill in the load now, risking that the validation of the plan will be carried out after the deadline?
Yes you have to wait until they accept it, in this case the deadline is postponed.

Is the course theoretical or does it include practical aspects?
The course includes theory, exercises and workshops. Some courses include individual or group projects.

What programming languages are taught in the course?
You start with Python in the computer science course (I semester). Continuing with C (second semester, year I, only for students enrolled in Ing. computer science). The C is deepened in the first semester of the second year. Then in the course of programming to objects (third year) you study the Java. In the course of electronic computers (second year) a low-level language (assembly) of the MIPS microprocessor is studied. In Databases (second year), you study the query language of SQL databases. You will also learn Matlab (for math courses and automated checks).

Are there any practical plans for the triennial?
Projects are more common in master’s courses, but in the three-year course some courses, such as "Technologies for IoT", involve practical projects on embedded boards.

Is it possible to take lessons and examinations at a distance?
No, the examinations take place only in person.

When are elective subjects communicated?
Second and third year.

What is the maximum number of credits to be charged in the third year?

Can I start the 12CFU internship in the second semester of the second year, having achieved 100 CFU by the first?
Yes, if you have completed 100 CFU you can start the internship in the second semester.

When and how are textbooks recommended?
Teachers recommend the texts at the beginning of each course.

Can attendance at conferences make up for missing credits?
No, the additional conference credits do not replace the mandatory TBO for the triennial.

Where can I see the textbooks that I will need to have in order to complete my first year of study in computer engineering?
At the beginning of each course, teachers will advise on which texts to follow.

If I complete the internal transition to computer engineering before the beginning of the second year, will I have to take the exam "Programming techniques" as a characteristic subject of the course in the first year?
Yes, must be entered (attended and passed) as mandatory, except for those coming from ing. He has also been a student of the European School of Economics and Management.

Can additional credits be taken into account for the achievement of 180 CFU for the triennial?
No.

Can I apply for advance credits for the magistral in March?
No.

Is the traineeship compulsory?
No, it’s not mandatory.

What is the final test?
During the Computer Networks examination, an open-ended question on additional material between the following subjects:

  • Databases of data;
  • Computer networks;
  • Electronic computers;
  • Operating Systems.

How to start an internship? What changes between a 10 or 12CFU internship?
The traineeship from 10CFU corresponds to 250 hours, the one from 12 CFU to 300. To start a traineeship it is necessary that it is present in the teaching load. You can choose from the proposals of companies in the jobs tab or you can search among the companies and contact them to start an internship.
At the end of the internship you will have to deliver a written paper, 30 pages describing your experience and results.
