Study plan

The study plan of the PhD Programme in Mathematical Sciences provides a structured and innovative curriculum designed to develop both specialised and interdisciplinary skills. The academic offering is divided into technical-specialistic courses (hard skills) and transversal courses (soft skills), tailored to provide a comprehensive preparation that meets scientific and professional demands. PhD candidates are required to attend a minimum of 100 hours of hard skills courses and 40 hours of soft skills courses.

The courses cover all the disciplinary areas characterising the PhD course: Algebra and Geometry, Mathematical Analysis and Control Theory, Numerical Analysis, Mathematical Physics, Probability, Statistics, and Operational Research. These are complemented by interdisciplinary topics that foster the integration between academic research and practical applications, as well as collaborations with industrial sectors.

The PhD programme also includes guest lectures offering direct interaction with renowned experts in the afore-mentioned fields. Courses are held in Italian and in English.

The PhD curriculum is enriched by a personalised study plan, that each PhD candidate develops in collaboration with their supervisor. Such a study plan includes advanced research activities, periods of research abroad, and specific learning goals.

The study plan offered by the PhD Programme in Mathematical Sciences is organised into an annual and biennial catalogue, ensuring PhD candidates timely and comprehensive access to the lectures. The schedule is published on the Politecnico website.
