The PhD title in Computer and Control Engineering provides access to the highest levels of scientific research in the fields of computer science and systems, as well as in all areas that rely on computing, both in academia and beyond. The wide network of contacts and collaborations maintained by the faculty of the Department of Control and Computer Engineering (DAUIN), with companies as well as national and international universities and research centers, facilitates entry into the job market, regardless of the chosen career path, both in Italy and abroad.

Career opportunities and profiles

The main career opportunities are in the following areas:

  • Research in public and private organizations, where PhD graduates are able to conduct innovative research activities and coordinate research teams.
  • Entrepreneurship, particularly as founders of spin-offs and high-tech startups focused on innovative technologies, leveraging the knowledge and skills developed during the PhD programme.
  • Academic careers, for which the PhD title is a fundamental prerequisite, both for research positions and, subsequently, for faculty roles involving research, teaching, and technology transfer, in line with the University’s core missions.

Furthermore, public sector recruitment is increasingly requiring the skills of PhD holders in the field of computer science, who are expected to take on positions of responsibility. Finally, the skills and knowledge acquired during the PhD programme represent a significant step forward, enabling access to roles similar to those available to Master’s degree graduates, but with a higher level of responsibility.
